hmm i feel like this would actually be better if there were more metal parts
think it leans too much into the pop stuff to the point that the metal sections scattered through the tracklist just makes those songs sound stupid even if the metal parts themselves are relatively decent

swapping DYWTYLM with another metal song is what they should have done

Yeah it feels like the metal parts on here are like non-sequitors.
Also say what you want about the dude’s cleans but his harsh vocals are abysmal, it’s like he’s recording at 2 am and he’s worried about waking his roommates. They’re prpduced in a way that makes it feel like they’re really trying to obscure his growls

Aqua Regia is one of the better songs on here for me. That piano is smooooth, I love it.

The metal parts themselves are terrible! First draft tier riffing and zero momentum even when the drumming isn't completely yawn inducing

Who are Sleep Token? For the blind, They are the vision. For the hungry, They are the chef. For the thirsty, They are the water. If a Sleep Token member thinks, I agree. If a Sleep Token member speaks, I’m listening. If Sleep Token have one fan, it is me. If Sleep Token have no fans, then I don’t exist.

When I hear the chorus of Aqua Regia, I cannot get the melody of Benny Benassi’s song “YOU ARE. A CINEMA. I COULD WATCH YOU FOREVAAA” out of my head

The biggest problem with this review isn't even that the listener doesn't like the album it's this bizarre assertion that he KNOWS what's going on behind the curtain. He somehow KNOWS its a psy op industry plant exploitation case. He's taking the marketing gimmick, taking it too seriously and then asserting that they're just there to exploit people. Literally this review is the sputnerd equivalent of the PMRC whinging about "Satanism" in rock music. It's faux outrage. Johnny you sound like a fucking fox news anchor commenting on the "Downfall of Society" so to say over an album you don't like.

Nowhere in the review does Johnny say anything at all about industry plant / psy-op / whatever your woefully arrested reading comprehension seems to read into.
What he said is that it’s a gimmick that doesn’t sync with the actual music at all (check) and that the band is clearly trying to lazily cater to an audience, which (also check).
Like it’s not like the review is difficult to parse so maybe take another remedial lit/comp course at your local night school before you try to make claims about what you’re reading again

can assure you that my outrage is real and increasing drastically in the face of your godawful reading comprehension

"more problematically, cheap emotional exploitation “Are You Really Okay?”."
"You deserve better than this album and this stooge band."
Just two examples right here. STOOGE band? This implies industry plant/fake. Emotional exploitation? So writing a song about caring about a friend is exploitative? Guess all my Waves Ablaze cuts are exploitative now because I'm always writing about emotional issues. Fucking hell.

Can't wait for the inevitable "Waves Ablaze uses cheap emotional pulls to exploit people" headline if I ever fucking blow up. Christ.

Johnny was actually talking about local band the stooges

Stooge also implies an abject joke
And what about “cheap emotional exploitation” implies industry plant rather than just characterless, lazily manipulative songwriting?
Once again, learn to read
