"A lot of them just sound so...NORMAL. Like you could probably find 100 vocalists that sound like Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Ringo Starr, John Lennon they're the most normal sounding guys ever lmao."
john lennon sounds like david gilmour? what?

I mean in that you can take any proficient tenor singer from a men's choir and they'll likely sound as normal as those guys. They don't have the most distinct tone unique to their voice and only their voice.

I mean listening to something like "Imagine" makes me think "this sounds like something I'd hear just as well from a solo choir performance at a high school choir concert" because it's really simple and normal.

coup de grace being any high school choir could perform Lune in [current year] and have all those same complaints leveled against it

i have no idea what your baseline for 'simple and normal' is in terms of vocals but its clear you know jack shit about music pre-2000s and should refrain from making assumptions towards it

generally the main examples are stuff that just sounds like it's a choral piece ala "Yellow Submarine" or, like a huge chunk of Pink Floyd's prime stuff. There's a certain emotive quality I feel like I should be hearing in songs like "Wish You Were Here" considering the lyrical content, but... as hit-or-miss as Shadows can be (sweet jesus that one album he tried so hard to emulate Axl Rose on), I felt the vocals on the Avenged Sevenfold version had more emotion in them than the original.

Honestly felt Disturbed overdid the "epicness" of that one but I liked Draiman's delivery for the first time in years because it wasn't just some yuhmuhnuh stuff, he really tried.
