Yeah Sin you're right, artists should have the freedom to do whatever the hell they want. I was mostly poking fun at the diehard metalheads who can't see beyond that and will write off the band entirely for not releasing "what they want"
I bet you bc of this album there are gonna be people proclaiming that BI have always been overrated/they're trash etc.

=> Death metal band announces an ambient album
=> Angry plebs listen to it and get triggered over the fact that it is indeed an ambient album

Any ambient drone fan tell me this is good so I can 4 it.
Also set this as an EP

one thing that’s getting lost here is that BI fund and own all their own music, then license it to the labels. the labels are just distributors, so the band makes all the creative decisions.
if this were actually a century media release there’s probably no way this gets released as a full length. take that information as you will.

ahh yeah i get you jay, read your comment wrong initially
"Apt of you to just say shit about a user without interacting with them though. Just saying. You're like the kind of person that dissuades others from trying to say anything. Like I said, whatever. I try to make daily contributions to the site, I would think a good portion of people recognize my name here even though I don't have the need to say anything in every thread I read."
didn't wanna start something mate, it was just a light-hearted dig, wasn't intended as anything more. didn't need the overreaction though.
that may be true, but you've got to realise that this site has seen hundreds of people come and go over the years, and i've been here just under a decade at this point. there's users i've probably interacted with ten times more than I ever have with you that I've completely forgotten . we seem to both be active in different threads and areas of the site for the most part. you can't really expect the whole site to know you when you average about 150 comments a year

All I can find vis-a-vis EP is the metal archives label, but not sure if there’s any story there

Oh wow this is a lot of pages for a pretty solid yet unremarkable ambient album…
I guess the whole ‘metal band releases non-metal album’ is enough of a controversial talking point for some.

^ I guarantee you that this would have one page maximum if it wasn’t released by BI

I’ve reviewed several albums like this and I can confirm they get barely a second glance lmao

Yep. Devlab and Hummer are the only Devin Townsend albums that haven’t been reviewed, and those are his two ambient albums

@Sinternet
I get it man, but dude, I'm in my place talking in a dm thread. I'm not going around the site talking in random synth pop threads like I own the place and why doesn't anybody know me. You came in here from wherever you hang and rando dropped a comment about me and I should ignore it? Like dude, it was your one and only comment in this whole original 19 pages. Then you want to play the how am I supposed to know who you are card, when there was no reason to have to say it to begin with. Why did you desire so to just quip and simply bounce? That's why I called you out dude. It's no wonder you don't remember, you probably do that shit a lot.

i super got into ambient over the last year or two so i was quite excited for this. it's not all that compositionally rich though. it's nice enough and fits a certain mood but it doesn't really have much staying power like many of the ambient greats i've discovered over the last couple of years. it earns a 3 from its textures - i really like the choice of synths and palettes but it doesn't really go much further than that.

“ second piece is great though”
I’ve listened to this three times now and I still can’t remember a single moment of the second piece. At least the first piece has that synth
|
| |
ok im actually listening to this now
this is more berlin school than i was expecting rather than just straight up ambient

"I’ve listened to this three times now and I still can’t remember a single moment of the second piece. At least the first piece has that synth"
feel like its the opposite lol Ea is easily more memorable, esp the 3rd part with the keys & (i think?) guitar

[2] second piece is definitely the superior of the two

"it is a tangerine dream cover album yeah"
speaking of tangerine dream, new tangerine dream dropped on the same day as this (despite all the surviving members not even having been born yet when say phaedra was released - supposedly the tracks are based on froese's unfinished sketches though)
