I wish we had a ‘listening to/loving’ feature, I wanna know if Sput is fawning over this certified Spurcore vs the BCNR gang over at RYM etc.

🤔

And no, ‘digging’ doesn’t count… no overall data for that shit

That transition from Cloaked to Mutual Ruin is kinda sloppy. Cloaked just randomly ends and Mutual Ruin comes on as if you like skipped a song. Just a bit odd for a band who usually nails song transitions

That's probably because even the band subconsciously knows that Cloaked is dookie and that there should be a different song before Mutual Ruin instead

^^^that's my second favorite transition on the album (after Drip>>>Prescience), I love how jarring it is.

The whole album has a kind of schizo-feel to it, like it's fighting itself over what it wants to represent, and I fully believe they were going for that/did it on purpose. It organically creates a sense of exasperated tension that hits me right in the feels.

Mutual Ruin absolutely incredible [2]

Ya might be right Portal, I could see that, I just can't get down to Cloaked tbh, thought maybe it would grow on me or be better in context but the fact that it doesn't transition well makes Cloaked stand out on its own even more and just. No thanks.

I must agree, it does sound weirdly jarring…

but yeah Drip > Prescience is godly

Well, it's not that it doesn't transition well, it doesn't really transition at all lol, so I can totally see why that turns some people off but I like it.

Okay yeah that's fair lol

I'm also not as big on Prescience as everyone seems to be but it's still a great track

It’s just that everything from Drip onwards is so seamlessly integrated that it (retrospectively?) makes other half sound sloppy… well not entirely, but that transition in particular. I think the 2nd half is stronger generally, so that is probably prevalent in my thoughts.

There's other angry moments/stretches on the album but Prescience is straight up murder-fuel lol

Even the soft section still sounds sinister af.

@Demon yeah, again, it feels purposeful to me, that the first half sounds, and therefore feels, almost TOO all over the place (key word almost), and then it tightens up and smooths out and by the last track it's like an epiphany and "it all makes sense now"

I can see where you could interpret it as just sloppy but for me it was like I was being made to felt sort of dazed and confused on purpose. Closer kind of calms things down and takes a step back, and it all makes how smooth the second half is feel even more satisfying in comparison.
