I'm still working my way through this album. I love Pain with an Anchor opening the album. There are so many heartfelt, quality songs here. The only song that isn't clicking right now is Dagger and I am not sure it will, unfortunately.

Same here Teal. If there was one song on here I could do without its definitely Dagger.

dagger is easily one of the better Melidcicc choruses on this

Will say again: cut Sickle and Peace if anything

Dagger feels more like an ambient track. Feels good and sets a mood.

sometimes y'all post "ambient" in metal threads and i question whether you have any idea what that word means in the REAL PLANET

Its not a metal track. So you re only left with ambient. There.s only these 2 genres in the real world
If you read properly tho, I said that "it feels more like" and not exactly "its one", so it can give us freedom to think, and also a chance to escape when you try to corner me

first time listening Dagger I was pleasantly surprised by the middle section. However, I think the vocal line gets old a bit quickly and it's the reason I wouldn't mind skipping the song. It's a shame, because the opening lyrics are just soul-crushing.
Brann Dailor says about the song:
Once you’ve decided that you’re making a double album, you can sprawl out a bit. I don’t know that this song would’ve been as cool as it ended up being if we didn’t go down the rabbit hole with it. We got a sarangi player, and my friend Dave Witte from Municipal Waste came in to do some percussion on these tribal drums and hunks of metal. Then we had our buddy come in and play some crazy Moog at the end. I’m stoked on it, but if it wasn’t for Troy’s voice, you’d have a hard time convincing even a Mastodon fan that this was a Mastodon song.

Been awhile since I've been excited to check new Mastodon but I'm actually kinda hype for this one

That s hella cool Mythodea!

Everytime I hear Dagger I also think of Motorpsycho's Dreamkiller. Both psychy 2021 songs with hunting-y percussion, that's probably why

Heard a few tracks from this, not a fan of the sound work.

a few filler tracks were expected, but the highlights are so warm and soulful. not much head-banging going on but i really dig the atmosphere and tone they have going on here. troy's voice is surprisingly suited to the moody vibes, he sounds like a warm hug. brent's solos are still fantastic as always and bring life to some of the weaker tracks

Omrts had the most headbangers out of all their records since blood mountain.

Hunter has definitely a lot of bangers (Curl of the Burl included)
