I thought you'd never be heard from again after the existential crisis of reaching 34k comments Zak. Glad you bounced back so quickly.

I know there was tons of hype over this and I wasn't real excited to do it. Boy oh boy, what an album. They pretty much do what they want and I'm here for all of it. Creeping towards an AOTY candidate.

These guys don't actually sound a ton like Black Midi or BCNR to me but they still manage to have the exact same problem of all their songs feeling like they start and end as thought experiments

I don´t get the BCNR reference, neither the black midi one. these guys seem like a dinosaur jr/modest mouse/post-punk talking head-esque hybrid
yeah know this has been discussed to death already, anyway, I don´t know if I really feel this disc that much, it´s really vapid on some points. A friend of mine called Narrator the best rock song of the last 15 years, so I guess I checked it again just to deflate the hyperbole

'Narrator' is really cool and everything but wow that's a rather high accolade - okay maybe not actually, rock is 'dead' after all.

That's a big hyper bowl

Rock will never die, it’s just piss poor at the minute.

I've never understood the comparisons to Black Midi etc. either. "The Cleaner," which is easily one of my favorite rock songs of the decade so far, screams Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, Modest Mouse, eg. conventionality, slightly askew. And the new album doesn't stray too far from that song tbh. It's more Lonesome Crowded West than noodly post-punk. Maybe I'm not making sense (I've long since given up on music writing) but just agreeing that Squid fall more squarely within the space of canonized indie sensibilities than they do this putative new wave of weird British post-punks . . . shrug?

Rock is as dead as jazz at this point, it won't go away but it'll never be dominant in the mainstream the way it was in the 70s and 80s

This floored me at first but then had severely diminishing returns. It's a 4 on principle I guess but I haven't bothered with this in months.

Dudes voice grates over a full length. I lost my mind for the EP before this.

It's strange how sometimes he's absolutely perfect (DON'T PUSH ME IN), but other times is just plain annoying. Maybe just a 'read the room' scenario needs to be applied

Woah months late but Christ this is getting compared to Lonesome Crowded West?
Might be time to pull the plug on rock
