"L'Enfant is literally their best record"
This would be true if Way of All Flesh and Mars to Sirius didnt exist

@JeetJeet those are 3 favorites so I don't really mind which one you prefer, they're really close.
I have only recently gotten into them in the past year. Tried Magma near release and didn't like it, but went to their older material and have loved it.

This does feel a little like a shell of their former selves, standouts aside. I can understand the snap low ratings. Born for One Thing, Into the Storm, Sphinx, and Grind keep this from falling into sub 3.0 land for me. Band will still be a force of nature live for years to come. No pun intended.

This is a heavier Magma, I don't really understand what's wrong with it imo

@faraudo This is a popular band who have noticeably softened their death metal edge and you are participating on an anonymous Internet forum. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

I think it’s just simply the watering down of their sound to make it more accessible to people that wouldn’t normally listen to this kind of music that bums me out. It’s a smart move as far as being a big band goes because you’ll make more money but it makes the actual music much less memorable to me.

After a few more spin, it really grows on me. Grind, New Found and Sphinx are the standouts. Magma was the watered down album to me (i find A shooting Star so boring) and how bland some was L'Enfant Sauvage (still like that album but except for 5 tracks i didn't come back to it).
By the way, I find always funny how L'enfant Sauvage is received here (NA). In France it was considered as a true let down and the beginning of the end for the old fans of Jira !

For me, most of their riffs aren't very interesting to begin with, alors the way they decided to build their songs around them by putting them into the foreground like that really turns this into a snoozer for me.

For a band who laid waste to their competition for a solid decade, I actually don't mind how they've matured, and really you can see this trajectory as far back as Mars. I think the spirit is still there, just don't dig it as much.

How’s someone going to rate this any less than a 4? A pure work of art; technical, ambitious, and the engineering sounds amazing. Literally my mind is blown that there are people in the comments bashing the production. If you’re saying that, you’re on bad drugs.

Even if I really like this some features (the production with the lack of rawness on guits, The Chant, and some mainstream structures) prevent it to be more than just a excellent Jira album to me
