"That album was evidently inspired by Depeche Mode"

That explains everything

So bloc likes the s/t for being inspired by Depeche Mode, but doesn't care about One Second and Host. Makes sense.

bloc also likes s/t but somehow not Symbol of Life, apparently

Host and Symbols are boring and I haven't heard One Sec. Then again, even Depeche Mode had some boring albums

You'd most likely enjoy One Second. Great album.

Host is one of their best albums but the albums surrounding it (One Second and Believe in Nothing) are their two weakest outside of Lost Paradise. I like them all though. Symbol of Life is fantastic. No Celebration is EASILY one of their best songs. The self-titled is great too, Sun Fading might be their best song.

Believe in Nothing is surely underrated, plenty of solid songs in that one. Probably more consistent than both One Second and Host for me, though it doesn't have the highlights of One Second. Then again, it also doesn't have something as bad as Blood of Another.

I'm also a lover of Sun Fading, it kinda outshines the rest of the album

I like the closer on the s/t the most, but you can't go wrong with "Sun Fading". BiN has its moments for sure but I prefer the preceding two. Host is underrated and I come back to it a lot (I love Ultra from DM which I also consider an underrated record, maybe that has something to do with it). Symbol of Life is the best from that time.

I get the feeling people consider BiN their "butt rock" record but when you get down to it you find an interesting slice of "alt goth" like Never Again, Divided, Control or the bridge in Sell It to the World (which was criminally butchered in the remix). Or how the main theme when you start I Am Nothing is pure teenage happy-angst, there's also a live bootleg in which Greg plays it with his usual tone and it sounds like the bridge of Enchantment basically

It didn't help that the band wasn't too fond of it either, but as you say, if you give it more chances it's some enjoyable goth alt rock.

It's a shame Waiting for God didn't make it to the final album outside of Japan (and a particular reissue I think), not even in the remix. It has somewhat of a "breakbeat" feel to it that I really dig

Totally forgot about that. I heard it long ago on the B-Sides and Rarities compilation.

It's mostly good, but I did delete Forsaken from my playlist. That one didn't reward patience.

Don't know about the rest of the album but Darker Thoughts is a fucking banger
