I'm bumping this to a 4.5. Amazing album.

My favourite tracks are Intolerance, Prison Sex, Sober and Undertow. But they're all brilliant.

oh yeah defs, am talking shit (though feels it compared to FI).
weird to hear a Tool album where Jones is as exciting as Carey. subtracted a .5 for homogeneity and the closer, but I'm a little more convinced that Aenima could be a 4 now

I love how dirty and raw this album is, it's the psychological equivalent of rolling in a mud of shit naked yet somehow exciting

Aenima is a mix between this and Lateralus. It's the logical evolution of this album, but not as intricate as Lateralus yet just as affective tbh. You don't seem to dig Lateralus all too much and neither did I at first, but Aenima did turn me on to Tool big time.

hot take: Undertow and Ænima artwork > Alex Grey artwork. Grey is still a hell of an artist, but I really love the otherworldly minimalism of their first two album's cover art.

Would you say Sober is still the band's biggest single or does that honor belong to Stinkfist and/or Schism?

Best Tool. No fucking stupidity, meandering and auto-felatio. Just straight bangers like Intolerance, Sober, and Swamp Song. m/

"Auto-fellatio"

Not sure what that means, but I do vaguely remember recieving a service of the same name some time ago however I doubt it's related

I've said it before but I'll say it again...I've never understood how bad songs, or in this case, interludes, detract from an album's perceived quality. Like trif said, some of the interludes are pointless, but the songs on Aenima are the best they've written. If the songs collectively make the album a 5, I guess I just dont understand the mindset that other material effectively lowers that score. I just think that an album is as great as you want it to be. So if the interludes are pointless, just skip em? I skip all of them but intermission, and it's still a 5. I'm probably in the minority in this mindset.

Not digging into trif, hes a kewl 1 but I see that take on aenima frequently and it bugs me lol

can't see how something's a 5 if it has skippable content

The songs are too good to not 5 the album, simple

I feel like people overlook how much a goofy little interlude can add to the character of an album. The interludes in Aenima may not be necessary, but it's humor is such a wonderful contrast to the music. It wouldn't be the same album without them.
