"I hope the Devil and Donald and Mitch McConnell rot in hell for all tomorrows"

welp. can't really spell it out any clearer than that! good song. the stripped back nature of it really gives off this "hey, we're just so fucking tired and exhausted and would love to start loving each other again if you could finally cut the shit" vibe

i'd be down for a supplementary acoustic release for each of their albums like On the Possible Past

agreed.

unrelated to the discussion regarding the new song, this album has grown on me after a recent re-listen. my main gripe remains the gaslight anthem-esque reverb on the vox.

This whole album would be great if it was reimagined acoustic style.

And yeah lose the reverb vocal effects.

yup literally exactly what you hoped for Sam haha, every song reimagined acoustically. and yes the new High School Friend version is so much better than the OG. calling it now, From Exile will get a better avg than this did

That’s definitely an interesting premise. Not hot on this album for dwelling in the shadow of ATP, but to strip it back to the essentials could salvage it...

yeah, my favs were the more stripped back ones anyway. given their age and lack of interest in going all-in punk, I think an acoustic/folk/americana version of this album would make so much more sense

haven't heard the 2 new tracks yet, but if they're in the same vein as "america pt 2" i'm stoked as hell. my only complaint with this record is the production.

The production here is pretty weak but some of the songs have some pretty weak hooks too compared to ATP (like Anna). Feels like they're just slightly phoning it in at times.

A more folky Menzingers might save them from this going-through-the-motions sound they have here. They need a change to revitalize.
