Barstool Warrior us such a fun song, love Perrucci’s tone on it

Barstool Warrior and At Wit's End are outliers for the era. Those two songs clear entire albums in their discog.

Good songs with pathetic song titles

@Meborphus that's a crazy hyperbole seeing as Pale Blue Dot clears both of those ;)

Pale Blue Dot is an easy #3 for me (maybe tied with Fall into the Light). But is it better than Enemy Inside or Sleeping Giant? hmm.

Haha now we're talking, Enemy Inside and Sleeping Giant are also really up there

rejammed this for the first time in a while today and yeah not so sure the new one is on this level.

Enemy Inside and Sleeping Giant are amazing agreed

this is still surprisingly good lmao. At Wit's End fucking rips
can't see any reason except recency/Portnoy bias that Parasomnia has a higher average than this

Still my favorite of that era

this and View are honestly solid, only one track I skip on each. compared to 34 I skip on TA lol

"can't see any reason except recency/Portnoy bias that Parasomnia has a higher average than this"
Honestly in terms of song quality, this Mangini-era stuff is on par with Parasomnia if not better (especially ADTOE and Self-titled). But I have to say, and not to be all "ooo but the mix " Parasomnia clears this stuff with its more raw and organic production and conceptual strength, this and Views are just so over-produced and choked out it keeps me from revisiting them more often

this one sounds pretty good to me but I can understand that otherwise, the prod on self titled is probably better left unmentioned lol. the songwriting on Parasomnia for me is just so safe though, it's like they were walking on eggshells the whole time

The thing that sucks is I adore the songs on the self-titled lol but that one is probably the worst offender production-wise yeah. Also for as much as TA gets shit on it's got a really clean/clear mix and generally sounds not bad
And yeah Para is safe in the sense that they're really harkening to that '05-09 sound, but I don't think the band has pushed the envelop much since then anyway lol

I’m probably due for a TA jam to reevaluate if it’s as bad as I originally thought it was.
But this for sure sounds the freshest out of all the Mangini era material (or at least on par with ADTOE). Idk how, but AVFTTOTW felt both convoluted and derivative. S/T was great imo but also too representative of their influences. At the very least, Parasomnia is fun.

I always try to balance the scales with some TA support here and there. It's got some really beautiful moments and has few songs I'd call outright bad, it's just a bit boring. I made an alternate tracklist that brings it to about 75-80 minutes while keeping the better songs and important story beats and I almost prefer that version of it to DoT lol

Yeah TA can be quite good without all of the filler and repetition. I do hate the insanely bland production and autotuned vocals on it though. This record also has a vocal production issue, mix here is really strange to my ears and that is also why I don't like it. But I don't have that problem with the self-titled haha
