'...more towards prog rock, I think it could be a much better sound. The Djent stuff just sells them short.' (2)

That was my overriding impression as well, should've just ditched the djent entirely and concentrated on the prog elements.

Title track starts up on shuffle and I keep thinking it's a dance Gavin dance song

They're apparently relatively deep in the recording process.

This was a total grower for me, didn't really click until the third listen. And Ruby Pool is just gorgeous

Ghosts, Alien Shivers, Smartfriend and the 3 soft tunes are absolutely phenomenal, not saying that the rest is any worse but I especially dig those songs.

there are so many amazing songs on this record. i think the only one i'd skip is smartfriend. then considering 'ruby pool' and 'alien shivers' follow it up, two totally unbeatable tracks, it probably only pales in comparison.

There is not one let down on this album. I should really 5 it.

So, are none of you annoyed by the vocals? Cause I most certainly was, while on the record before this I thought the vocals were nice.

Yeah the start of Still and Vertigo have some weird vocal parts for me, but not enough to detract really.

Tbh not really, I found them very pleasant throughout

I felt like the production put the vocals to much to the forefront, and I really didn't like the delivery of the vocalist. Felt like he was smiling/grinning his way through the record, and did not genuinely deliver his vocals. Might sound weird, but that has bugged me ever since, wish I wasn't so picky cause instrumentally this slays

"Felt like he was smiling/grinning his way through the record"

I know exactly what you're talking about, but it didn't bother me at all. With a record like this it felt to me that they were really enjoying the recording process, rather than coming off as disingenuous.

I can see that, but it still felt weird / annoying while listening. Maybe if I listen to it with that mindset I can enjoy it more?

It's certainly worth a try. I always thought of it as like an infectious laughter or smile. Even the barest fact that I can tell someone is smiling just by sound of their voice is something that makes me smile myself.

Vocalist reminds me of Roland from Tear For Fears at times
