It has a ton of earworms tbh. Can't get this thing out of my head

"both of their previous LPs were far more interesting than this."
I'm genuinely interested in your rationale behind this statement, because this album strikes me as far more bold, and therefore interesting, than anything this band has done in the past.

I’m surprised at the amount of people saying this wasn’t as good as their last two LPs, Dealer was so boring compared to this

yeah I agree, it maybe be over-inflated or too different but it's hard to argue that their other albums are musically more "interesting" when this has so much going on

I heard both of their previous records before this and although I LOVE Albatross this one stuck out as more creatively interesting from the get-go.

Just realized that Heartbeats sounds so much like a Paper Route song, especially something from Real Emotion.

I've just heard everything done here, and that isn't very interesting. The sound they had prior was almost entirely their own, and like I've said before in this thread, this sounds like everyone other than Foxing 90% of the time

GP, Slapstick, Trapped in Dillard's, and Lambert are the most interesting tracks here, imo. Maybe five cups too, even if i dont love it.

"The sound they had prior was almost entirely their own"
I don't know if I agree with that at all. Their sound was pretty damn representative of what had come to be the traditional emo-revival sound. I don't think there's anything their initial album achieved in sound that hadn't also been achieved in Whenever, If Ever. (Which isn't any kind of bash on Albatross. Both are excellent records.)
This, on the other hand, is some bizarre and erratic amalgamation of every single influence Foxing could ever claim and a handful of influences Foxing has no business in having as well. Perhaps you can knock it for lack of sonic focus, but I haven't heard many albums like it, and nothing really matches it within emo-revival.

This is considerably bolder and more distinct than The Albatross, which I love dearly

I see where you're coming from, fishing, this record was executed very well and deserves credit for stepping outside of the box. I disagree that they ever sounded like their contemporaries, they've always had a minimalistic approach to their sound, until now, and a grasp on dynamics and building to a climax that few in the emo revival can even claim to match.

See, now this debate has just come down to parsing terms, but I'd argue that you're stating Foxing was unique in executing the emo-revival sound and not so much unique for their sound itself. I could give that view quite a bit of legitimacy, especially if what attracted you to the band was the purity their sound had - and has most definitely lost with this release - although I may not see it as such a negative thing.

Hey, cool it with the reasonable debate. You’re supposed to just flame each other until the thread gets deleted and you get banned.
