Yeah the ending to one song sounds like Tool but that's it.

"The reason this review avoided the "obvious comparisons to Tool and APC" is because I've never actually jammed those two bands (the shocker) and wouldn't know to even make the comparison. But as a general thing I'm not the biggest fan of name-dropping, if only because it tends to lead people into thinking a band actively emulated others when that isn't necessarily the case"
^Totally supporting this.
However, I also don't see any Tool/APC vibes here. But I'm not a fan of both bands either (especially APC)
The reason this album rules (at least for me) so hard, is that it has a fresh and unique sound.

Well...with so many people disagreeing with me I have to give up and give you guys the credit...BUT this album is more similar to those two bands than this album is to Night Verses debut f.e. lolol
Also another thing is certain: those two bands you all talk in disregard, actually changed music and influenced millions, and - flash news - this album in particular, but mainly this band in general, won't change nothing. I can see that as clear as water.
The reviewer explanation to avoid comparisons on reviews makes total sense though.

"In multiple interviews the band has referenced Tool, Isis, Fiona Apple, At the Drive-In, Opeth, Björk, Deftones, DJ Shadow, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, various Trip hop Artists and the film Beyond the Black Rainbow as influences that have had a heavy impact on their sound."
Taken from wikipedia (Musical Style & Influences) lol...ok there's more bands referenced but is curious Tool is the first to come up in the list.
But I'll do it for you and erase Tool from the tags and leave you guys to hype this however you want. Again, beautiful release, fresh and unique with its influences.

At first I was like meh, not good or bad, but by the time it was over I didn't want it to end.
Been on repeat all day while at work.

This is a little bit too instrumentally wanky for me I think but the drummer is fucking sick. Reminds me of a more modern fall of Troy a little bit

Totally agree with you in every point. Night Verses changed sonically a lot compared to their other albums and imo it's one reason why this sounds so fresh to me. I actually got scared when they kicked out the vocalist and I was pissed because I never heard any songs of "Into the Vanishing Light" live.
In addition I never said that Tool or APC are bad, I'm just not a fan of it. I totally give credits to them for their musical approach and their influence on others and I would like to see them live one day...but it's just not grabbing me by the balls. Don't know exactly why. Maybe because I wish they would play faster or something.
Finally I genuinely don't care if Night Verses will influence others...I just hope they keep on doing what they do in the quality they are doing it.

Not sure how anyone could so easily dismiss the idea that this might influence other bands. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Unless this was called "The shape of instrumental rock to come", it's just too early to know for sure

they could have had the nerve to title this "From the Gallery of Instrumental Rock to Come" and i'd consider forgiving it

Yeah I think the flow of the album is one of its highlights. Although if any song could maybe benefit from being put somewhere else, it'd be Shadows

Trading Shadows is a good attention grabber tho, I think it's perfect where it is. Starts off with this soft pitter patter of guitar taps and slides, and builds into this monumental riff that slaps hard as nuts

You're right, but I consider it maybe the weakest on this (it's still fucking awesome) and I always prefer the weaker cuts in the middle of an album
