Mer De Noms on a 2.5...same as Lateralus, .5 behind Undertow and trailing Aenima on a 4
Everything after MdN/Lateralus I think’s pretty much garbage (inc Tool)

I've heard the first 2 records & wasn't very impressed, Mer De Noms was slightly better than 13th. Prefer Tool's classics although I'm not the biggest fan of that band anyway, also haven't you heard Doof we're not allowed to compare APC to Tool.

They both have one of the most distinctive vocalists of all time singing over them, and a lot of his melodies are super similar over both - I'm comparing ;D

"They both have one of the most distinctive vocalists of all time singing over them"
I think as much as Maynard likely wants to separate his projects on an artistic level, this is what ultimately makes comparisons unavoidable.

Yeah I think they're comparable as well personally, just don't tell anyone else I said that.

'Nice doof. A contributing reviewer spreading constant negativity'
He's an Englishman in his 30s, what do you expect?
Edit: actually, how old are you Doof? Close enough I bet.

Well Osmark, you're looking at it as Maynard being in both bands. What you're not considering is Maynard in two separate bands. If Maynard were trying to accomplish the same thing in both groups, you'd be on point. However, APC is not another version of Tool, and vice versa. APC is a different concept altogether. Did APC release "Aenima?" Did Tool release "Mer de Noms?" That's like saying Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine are the same band. There's no comparison between Tool and A Perfect Circle for that reason. They're two different concepts following two different ideologies. They're independent of each other for that reason. A Perfect Circle isn't responsible for anything Tool does. Not everyone likes APC, and more power to you if you don't, but their actions doesn't reflect what you feel is a bad Tool album.

I hate loads more stuff and don’t comment so I believe I’m closer to a model of restraint than anything
This is just the funniest bad album of the year, like c’mon, these opportunities only come around once a year
There’s not been too much to get positive about musically this year though, v low key good releases no one can be bothered talking about (Anna von Hausswolf, David Byrne, A.A.L, anything anatelier recs me, etc etc)

Oneohtrix Point Never and The The (please let it be this year, please let it be good) are the two albums that are my 5 hopefuls
Soon as something impossible for me to not keep bumping comes out I’ll be on it

People are obviously going to compare the different works of an artist even if it's across various separate projects - there's nothing wrong with people comparing Maynard's work with Tool with his work with A Perfect Circle or Puscifer or whatever... I don't see what the problem is

Yeah, the bigger problem is people treating APC like some sort of Maynard solo project. It's like people think he's to blame for every stylistic decision made on this while he's obviously only half of the project.

As a vocalist on the album scale, Lateralus is his best performance I'd say. As a lyricist, 10,000 Days.

he has a best vocal performance?

The problem is those comparisons are unjustified. APC, Tool, and Puscifer are going after different goals. Neither are imitating each other, so what's the point? They have different styles, lineups, the only constant is MJK. That's a groundless comparison.

It's not a groundless comparison if they are part of the same body of work of an artist, in this case Keenan. Also, all three projects have the goal of creating music, so there's that. People just shouldn't take it too far, that's what I'm saying.
"he has a best vocal performance?"
Some of the best ever tbh

I know I’ve earned the right to comment on this as much as I have, in ‘96 aged 17 Aenima i considered my favourite album of all time - trumping Korn self titled (I had my problems lol) to the title. A year later ‘Ok Computer’ came out and I shifted away from being a Kerrang/Metal Hammer sort of kid for good - I still liked some metal I just didn’t identify as that being ‘my music’ or my main music after that. I didn’t look back really.
I’ve seen Tool live a couple of times, I had the t-shirt, all that.
I still think Aenima is a statement album and it’ll keep a 4. This stuff is just powder puff in comparison to me.
