Definitely, people tend to hate it when there's a significant change in styles, and In Waves was clearly when they really started experimenting with their sound.

In Waves is probably still my favourite record from these guys, although this one is pretty good as well

Trivium has always been a band that I thought had a few great songs but never really hooked me long term.



But I could definitely see myself revisiting this album fairly often. I think this might easily be their best work. There's some shitty tunes for sure ( The Heart From Your Hate, Endless Night ) and few more that are pretty meh.



But there's also some songs I absolutely love. The Wretchedness Inside is amazing. Thrown Into The Fire is almost as good. Betrayer and Beyond Oblivion are great. The title track is also good but I'm kinda burnt out on that one by now.



I honestly think this is a solid 4/5, definitely one my favorite metal releases this year that I really was not expecting.



Also I've got a weakness for bands that return to their heavier roots.
