'You think so, Sisternet? I feel like TWFM didn't really have peaks and valleys like this album and TWFM was a very consistent effort imo'
sisternet lol thats a first haha
i agree twfm was consistent but it didnt have any highlights - it was an extremely pretty album but there were no really touching moments and it just sounded like it was made by old men, barely any energy throughout - i still enjoy it but this is a vast improvement, I can't find any weak points and there is much more energy making it actually feel like a successor to high violet, plus the instrumentation and songwriting are much more lush and creative

walk it back doesn't do much for me, but the rest of this is killer, even turtleneck

'Walk it Back' is the sleeper National classic on this album mark my words
'Turtleneck' is amusing but if I could swap it for a rocker in the mould of 'System' or maybe something like 'Don't Swallow the Cap' I'd do it in a heartbeat.
It would make a decent 'hidden track'.

Turtleneck is good but shouldn't be here at all, it pushes this into being their longest album yet and it's totally unnecessary. Including it here is probably the only misstep they've made since Alligator.

It's probably a pet favourite, and they'll want to play it live...they're only human.

"Alvvays will probably be a 2.5 for you tbh Doof."
On the one hand it has those 90s vibes he digs, but he's stupidly picky about female vocals so yeah. It's a great record tho, may write a review for it today or tomorrow if no one else steps up.

As female vocals go they're a bit iffy I have to say

I love the female voice in music but there are definitely many many more great male lead vocalists I appreciate than there are female ones.
My two favourite albums of all time, The The 'Infected' and Destroyer 'Kaputt', both have very prominent female backing vocals and duets included.
So yeah, I love the sound of the female voice but female lead singers have it all to do to win me over.
I don't know if it's due the same reason people find it easier to appreciate/concentrate on male public speakers but there was a scientific study carried out on that which suggested that tends to be the case :/

Tbh my statement has no real thought process behind it, i probably love male and female vocals just as much. Nothing beats a good duet tho :D
Really? Could you send me a link or sth?

I do generally prefer the female voice in the place of a backing singer but the best female vocalists are some of the absolute best vocalists out there, in country music especially.
