The band said this weird thing about Dan on Facebook, that “he’s a reasonably decent human being” when they posted in May about his suicide attempt and mental health issues.

No denial or even acknowledgement of the allegations is pretty odd. They’re also not allowing comments on the Facebook posts which is sketchy. I personally wouldn’t contribute a dime. All signs point toward Anathema being defunct, with a new project instead called Weather Systems.

Even tho I've loved this band for a long time and wish all of this wasn't happening, at least they've released a lot of excellent music spanning 20 years now. I'm not really sure where their sound could have gone further, despite this being a little more different with going darker and more post-rock influenced.

What evidence? I only know what I've seen here, and a few hours of creeping around the internet, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence what-so-ever pointing to anything. There also seems to be nothing anywhere saying Danny wrote the suicide post on his own. I'm just curious because you seem pretty sure of what you're saying, but it appears to be based entirely on second-hand gossip and straight-up assumptions -- an assumption I had, too, when I read the 'reasonably decent human being' comment, but I'm not presenting it as fact anywhere.

Second sentence contradicts the first. At best, the rumor going around is that he looked or got kid porn or something like that and everyone else went "Nope fuck this" and walked out. There's also 100 other reasons all the members could ditch the controlling dictator in the band -- Machine Head, Children of Bodom, etc...

Yeah the whole situatuon is vauge and no one will know what actually happened outside of the band itself. Overall its just sad to see the band basically be done at this point.

There's literally no evidence for this. One of the former band members called him a 'nonce' which is always used as an insult in the UK I think. Nothing else has pointed towards that whatsoever.

The Anathema fans group on Facebook is full of people gossiping about Danny without concrete evidence ever being presented. Some might say "where there's smoke, there's fire", but assumptions like that lead nowhere. Yeah, some people gossiping also claim to know him personally, but it's hard to believe everything they say. Even if one of them is Darren White, Anathema's old singer from Serenades.

I hear you, but how many of those people on that page are like the two guys here presenting these things as indisputable facts, when they're entirely second-hand knowledge (probably from the same Facebook site or Reddit page).

Even Darren White, I've read interviews (old interviews from when they did that one-off show with him a few years back) where is says he doesn't really have interaction with the band anymore, so he was surprised to get a call about doing the old songs.

I have a hard time trusting anything anonymously posted to the internet these days, no matter how much 'leaked proof' they claim to have (or even post). Everyone is guilty with no chance of redemption, and that's just the way it is. People get off on piling on the shit, and stories eventually become more and more extreme and rumors morph into 'fact'.



Edit: Scoured the Reddit page and found nothing. A lot of theories and rumors with a few people trying to present them as 'facts' without actually backing those facts up. There's a single post that may or may not be from John Douglas, but he is also the only one from the previous band working on Weather Systems, so that doesn't seem to add up either. It seems like all of this stems from Darren White (the original vocalist), who admittedly has an issue with Danny. Again, that doesn't mean there's nothing to these rumors, but so far there is zero 'evidence'.

i guess the posts i was referring to were deleted then. there were DMs with members of the band explaining what happened. fwiw, danny is on a lot of damage control so it's possible that he was part of why they were deleted.



thanks for the cancel culture spiel all the same but 1. it can be a bit tough to prove something that's intentionally being hidden and we aren't 100% sure what the extent of the allegation is and 2. i'm not saying it is fact, and to be honest, i don't think everyone else is - they're simply sharing opinions/experiences. i'd love to understand why you're intentionally being dismissive about a very serious matter.



danny has control over all the social media pages and he's known to be a total twat - i've had this experience with him too. he certainly has the means to keep rumours like this hidden. he curated his own wikipedia page to look like a press release lmao..

It's definitely possible he's on damage control, but could he delete posts on Reddit? It's a serious question, I've literally never used it. The Anathema Reddit page seems like a page independent of Danny and/or the band in general.

It can be a bit tough to prove something that is intentionally hidden, but a vast majority of the posts I saw were by people that literally have no connection to what was being discussed. It was theories and guesses -- and that's why I'm being dismissive, because there was nothing substantial. I also said that a lack of anything substantial doesn't mean there's nothing behind the talk, but all I saw was talk.

I tend to follow music and not members (if that makes sense), so I don't really have any idea how Danny might be irl. I'm not saying he might not be keeping shit hidden, but if he is keeping things hidden he's doing a good job of it.



Edit: Crystal Castles, Brand New, The Lost Prophets... those were all serious and evidence quickly came to light once shit got moving. I'm just not seeing that here, and I don't believe people deserve to be crucified by the mob just because someone is talking shit. I could be totally wrong in the end, and would freely admit it, but I'd rather be wrong long enough for actual proof to come out than to ruin someone for no reason (look what happened to Johnny Dep before the trial... the internet and mob mentality at its finest).
