Meh, I don't comment on much because there are few bands I truly love enough to bother with it. Opeth used to be among them.

I can't call this album bad, but I found more passion in Pale Communion. The production seems off, Mikael's vocals don't seem to be as vibrant as they once were and if there were no vocals at all, I wouldn't be able to tell that this is Opeth. Maybe this will warm up to me, but I doubt I'll return to this any time soon.
Era was cool, though. And A Fleeting Glance minus that Moon Above, Sun Below prog riff I keep hearing.

I can see the 2.5s and the 3s, I can even understand an occasional 2. But the amount of 1.5s and 1s thrown at this is just...wtf

This is somewhere close to a 3.5 for me (around the same as their last two). And I had LOW expectations for this so I'm honestly really surprised I'm enjoying it as much as I am.
Peth is just too seasoned to make an objectively bad record. So yeah, if this really rubs you the wrong way, slap a 2 on it and move on. But 1s? Nah. There's soooooooo many things soooooooo much worse.

because this is way more interesting and not safe than pale communion. how that has a 3.5 average is beyond me

Anything lower than a 2 for this is just circlejerking.

Chrysalis and Era are top notch stuff. And the T/T is growing on me.

I dig the title track hard too. This def exceeded all my expectations.

7th Sojourn is the best thing here, imo.
Hawks, the title track is a dumpster fire.

I may bump this to a 3 soon. There's still a lot to dislike on this, but the stuff that's good is really good (Era, Spring MCMLXXIV, Will O the Wisp). I think it's the best of Opeth's prog worship albums, though that's more a statement of how bad Heritage and especially PC are imo.
