I've only seen these guys once and that was the Redeemer anniversary tour and it also was incredible. Man, I love that record. Redeemer and Meridional are my favorite NJ albums. I feel like Meridional is such an overlooked killer album; maybe because it came out so close to the Anti Mother, which so many people dislike. I categorize their discography into their early work (first three albums), their middle (Anti Mother and Meridional) and their current era (the 4 most recent albums. when listeners' ears pricked as they realized there basically are no founding members left but holy sh!t somehow NJ is putting out some of their best material).

They play that song faster live, which is probably best for the folks in the pit. But the slow, looming tempo of the album version is fantastic.

Definitely an improvement over Meridional, which is still a damn good album. But feels a bit disjointed and inconsistent.
This, on the other hand, is incredibly cohesive, seamless and a more complete album. Very consistent. I would almost say that Meridional has higher highs than this overall, but this is much more consistent.
Easily a 4, could def grow to 4.5.

this is the only Norma Jean where the interludes don't feel pointless, they actually nailed them

Agreed! Yeah they feel really inconsequential on Meridional. They definitely flow here and add to the overall atmosphere.
