The new album is a big letdown. The best track is The hanging man by far. I can save My phantom limb, It's coming it's real and maybe Sunfucker.

Leaving Meaning is my least favorite Swans. I haven't heard much Angels of Light or any album in full from before CoG tho

Some of their worst ideas yet imo, but there was plenty of interesting moments too hence my rating for it. I like the t/t, It's Coming It's Real, and What is This? a lot. What is This? especially channels mid 70s Brian Eno in a nice way.

New album is not that bad. It would have been better if they had eliminated a few songs but the first half of the album, until sunfucker, is great.

Sounds like people like different songs than each other, and not others?

Slowly getting through my post reunion swans albums. Mixed bag this one. First two tracks very unforgettable and not worthy of the 37 minutes they take up. Then into my favourite track of the album world looks red/black. Love that track. The 3 shorter songs are all very strong - although the final track feels like it would much more at home on the next album. If Frankie started at the 8 minute mark then it would be a much better song for me. And likewise if hanging man started at the 12 minute mark that would improve it no end for me - that krautrock end section is wonderful. This is definitely a pattern I’m finding with all their long songs (over 15 minutes) - the build and wait just doesn’t pay off for me and without wanting to rob them of their essence or intrinsic meaning - but I think that they could still carry the same power at half the length. With a bit of focus and discipline with editing I still think the Songs could convey the same shamanistic ritualistic ramblings, trance inducing rhythms, drone sections and crescendos. Just To Be Kind and The Seer to go.

Three songs over the 20 minute mark on one album, even by their standards is stretching listener endurance. One hurdle too many for me and definitely hurts the overall enjoyment of the album.
