The first 5 songs in a row might be the best Tool has ever done. Lateralus is better overall easily, but man do the opening songs hit so hard.

Yeah, Vicarious especially is fantastic...as well as "The Pot." Prior to owning the album, i had heard most of it. I love "Rosetta Stoned" as well, and "Right In Two" is great.

For me, the first half of the album plus Rosetta Stoned is awesome. Although Right In Two is good, I find it gets a little boring.

Thor...couldn't have said it better myself...I have weined a little bit on my stance, but I agree though. I just think Lateralus is their best...after The Pot...ehhhh. You know?

When this album hits the great parts, it is epic. Everywhere else it is meh.

All in all it really good though.

As far as I'm concerned, the CD is made up of 6 songs - Vicarious, Jambi, Wings, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two. Vicarious is essentially Schism, perhaps better, Rosetta Stoned is essentially Third Eye, nowhere near as good. The Pot and Right in Two are both very solid, decent Tool songs, in the same sense that I would consider something like The Patient or H. to be. Wings is an amazing song - if you have the time to listen to it the full way through. In my opinion, Jambi is the jewel of this CD. Amazing song the whole way through, and I would definitely rate it up there with Tool's best (Lateralus, Ticks and Leeches, Aenema, Third Eye). If it were not for Jambi, I would probably give this CD a 4 at best, maybe even a 3.5. With less filler and more music, this had the potential to be as good as Lateralus, maybe even Aenima, but like the band said, they were going back to the Undertow days, and the product shows - An Undertow, made infinitely better by more matured musicians... but still falls short of their best material to date.

10,000 Days is certainly not Tool's best album, but it is a great cd.

I personally love Jambi...i've been reading a lot of reviews and it hasn't received many good critiques. It's not a masterpiece but I really enjoy it..it's one of those songs I have to belt out along with while im driving in my car banging the steering wheel :P

I agree about The Pot. It's my favorite song of Tool's and I think that song earned the cd some redemption. That song is just amazing...I can't quite put my finger on it but it's like the whole band is putting in their 100%.

And Wings For Marie to me is just a beautiful song. The cd's not as up to par as their previous but i'm still satisfied...for now.

I hope they make another within the next couple years.

I got a feeling that they will make 1 more, then thats it. Maynard (and the entire band for that matter) are all pushing 50ish! Eventually they gotta slow down. But lets hope for 1 more

Tool is my favorite band, been a fan since Opiate, been to eight concerts, have two t-shirts, three opsters, and two copies of each of their CDs (one to play, one to display ;) Is this Tool's best CD? Certainly not. Is this my favorite album from them? Without a doubt in my mind yes.

This is probably my favorite towards the mellow side album of all time.

hahaha, yeah, extremely mellow ^^

no, honestly, they fucked up here. Aenima was great in parts and Lateralus was a masterpiece, but here they've done everything wrong: the production is mediocre (for a Tool album) and the songs offer none of the great structures Lateralus used to have, instead they are just collections of riffs. The only real exception is Right in Two.

still on a technical level it is great, but musically they seem to run out of ideas. still it is great, but not nearly as good as Lateralus. This Message Edited On 02.10.08

I totally disagree on "Rosetta Stoned"... IMO it is one of the best song on the album and it is very enjoyable, even though it took me ages to get into it.

And "The Pot" has to be the most mainstream and boring song Tool have ever written...

Good review, truly, though i disagree with your point on Jambi. Adam Jones' talk box solo is really quite awesome, and so is JC's bass.

Although it is an over-the-top review, it is still very enjoyable from start to finish. good stuff.

I agree with your review almost entirely.

The first five songs are absolute classics, and had they stopped there or somehow managed to keep that standard on the rest of the album it would have been one of the best albums ever made.

But after The Pot it all collapses. None of the other songs are interesting at all (apart from Intension which is decent), and Lipan Conjuring is just completely pointless.

vicarious and jambi are fun to listen but definately not tool's best work. the pot and 10,000 days are the only songs that are truly in the right direction. the three track combo thing was brilliant.
