yeah I actually think rappers come up with their own shit and don't steal entire concepts from previous artists without even giving them a reference, guess im an idiot because I know what biting is

whats worse is he actually has a few lines about "sharing bars" on King Kunta.

You can't admit Kendrick bites when he took an entire concept of a song and pretended to come up with it himself.

If "every rapper bites" then why don't you find me some artists that KRS bit. Because you can't, because rap used to be original and now stealing concepts from older rappers and recycling 70s sounds passes off as a "classic genre/generation defining album."

I'm predicting you're gonna eventually have this at a 3-2.5

well for 1) nobody but you thinks he 'bit' that song and you have literally no evidence of it. send me the link again and i'll investigate and decide for myself

2) no fucking shit he didn't 'bite' other rappers early in his career considering that style of hip-hop had barely been around a few years when he released his first album. how can you plagiarize/appropriate/pay homage to someone before you when there is no one before you? durrp.

3) referencing other rappers and using their lines and altering them is a respectful homage that almost every rapper in the game does. again i'll have to check out this krs-one debate myself but the way you adamantly go after it without providing even a shed of evidence other than something along the lines of "they are both singing about hobos" or other such nonsense as far as I've seen I cant say im expecting tot agree with you

4) "recycling 70s sounds" what the hell are you talking about

1)you mean in a thread full of Kendrick fanboys, no one is admitting two songs are similar that are both about being caught up in materialism leading to neglecting a bum who turns out to be God to teach a lesson about false pride? doesn't really mean much.

I posted the link on the last page to the KRS song, the KRS song is called "false pride" (and Kendrick bites it on How Much A Dollar Costs)

2) doesn't weaken or refute anything I've said, but lets not act like all modern day rappers are biters. Does Immortal Technique bite? No. There are similar artists like Zach De La Rocha but he never actually stole his lyrics or his concepts.

3) have you not even heard the KRS song before assuming i'm 'the dumbest whatever ever'?

4) this album just recycles funk sounds and people are calling it ground breaking, that's a side point.

1) "no one is admitting two songs are similar that are both about being caught up in materialism leading to neglecting a bum who turns out to be God to teach a lesson about false pride?"

having similar concepts =/= plagiarism. but that does seem oddly specific. we shall see.

2) never said all modern day rappers are biters. you seem to be completely unable to wrap your mind around the fact that plagiarism (biting), appropriation, and referencing/paying homage are completely different degrees. when you use another artists lyrics and alter them as a direct reference to their work you aren't biting them. you are paying respects. if you however steal someones shit and claiming it as your own, then yes you are plagiarizing.

3) yeah i listened to it when you first linked it and then couldnt give a fuck. i was calling you dumb because of your comment saying that rappers dont reference and appropriate their influences material all the time because any hip-hop fan in the world knows how common that is. you were just being needlessly stubborn about it.

4) no its not. i agree its not innovative but the influences it draws from are not 70's funk sounds. you can hear this album is massively influenced by nu-jazz which is a 90's phenomena.

Actually thinking KRS One invented this scenario and nobody has ever proposed such a story before.

Yeah, there's not a lot of 70s funk here. More like 60s/70s Motown and 90s/00s neo-soul

sorry funeral but with comments like this you are just reinforcing lambs point here;

"you mean in a thread full of Kendrick fanboys, no one is admitting two songs are similar that are both about being caught up in materialism leading to neglecting a bum who turns out to be God to teach a lesson about false pride? "

if YOU actually think that this extremely specific scenario is a concept that has been utilized to the point of being a common trope then LOL

I actually hear some John Legend here and there too (primarily in the soul influences and piano work), which is neat... especially in songs like "Alright" and "How Much a Dollar Cost"

alright i listened to both again and compared lyrics and im sorry lambsbreath, you are right that the general concept is nearly the same but the story is completely different and the way its told is completely different too. its not plagiarism, its appropriation of the concept at best and appropriation is perfectly legitimate and acceptable in the art world. sorry buddy. you can shut up about it now tho!
