Found books 2-5 to be the best Malazan books to be honest. I liked books 7 and 10 as well but 6,8 and 9? It was hard to finish the series. Overall I would say it was worth it, tho

As for the music this fucking rules.

First half of 6 was amazing, Y'Ghatan and all.

I actually really like House of Chains haha there was one of Karsa Orlong's kills towards the end of the book was fucking amazing (it was a villain who met an incredibly horrible death)

I really enjoyed Erikson's latest one, the first in the "Karsa Orlong" series (even though that book doesn't feature Karsa on screen). I read a few of the Esslemont books too but my interest in those fizzled after finishing the main Malazan cycle. I only read the ones that take place more or less concurrently with MBotF. Should probably check his current prequel series which I've heard is better than most of his other books. And I read about a quarter of the first Kharkanas book but didn't really get into it at the time, but I also want to go back to that if/when Erikson finishes the last book in that series.

yeah esslemont's early work isn't great but the path to ascendancy series is very good. they're a fun romp and you get more kellanved/dancer

Tbh each one I read of his early ones (Night of Knives, RotCG, and Stonewielder) was better than the previous, so it makes sense that he's continued to improve. RotCG and Stonewielder are both pretty good, Night of Knives kind of sucks though.
