seriously stoked

It's decent on my first few listens, his melodies are soooo boring and flaccid on it tho

love it so far

same same, Bury Me Anywhere Else and Rose & Reseda are so good
wait why is Runnin' to the Light giving me serious Born to Run vibes???

Big fan unsurprisingly. Solid 4 after a single listen. Rosa caught me off guard her just being a roommate. His story telling evokes so much feeling.

Slex, I’m curious about your thoughts on the melodies! Granted I’m only halfway through the first listen, but I already find it insanely engaging.

I just think they sound really uninspired and samey

the melodies are less huge than We Don't Have Each Other but the lyrics feel so much stronger. idk if anything on here can touch Divorce & The American South as an individual track but yeah Soupy's a great storyteller and he's getting better with age
like the last track just gives me goosebumps, idk i'm a sucker for sad bands doing hopeful songs

WDHE is better and more memorable on the whole, but new one is still fantastic.

Also Aaron sounds like your buddy that's newly single and starts using Instagram way too much. Dudes are weird after breakups.

I feel like musically Routine Maintenance is so much stronger. WDHE seems like a stepping stone between The Wonder Years and Americans, with the new one full on embracing those roots. The horns, strings, and banjo all absolutely kill me and feel so much more incorporated. Absolutely enamored with it after a few listens.

love the addition of horns and strings, but gotta say first album is still a little stronger musically

Actually yeah, let me change that up a little bit - Musically the first one is more consistent (I think the slow tracks here are stronger than the slow tracks on the new one, with the exception of the closing track), but the new one sounds more like Soupy has a full grasp on the sound he wants. If that makes any sense?

new album is their best imo

Was finally able to give Routine Maintenance a listen while reading the lyrics. In terms of storytelling, Soupy is at the best he’s ever been. It’s so satisfying to essentially have a sequel all these years later (even though I found the first album in like 2016).

I listened to We Don't Have Each Other once a long time ago and remember being unimpressed, but I heard it before I ever heard The Wonder Years. I got really into Sister Cities last year and now my perspective has changed big time. I'm going in backwards order though because I'm listening to Routine Maintenance first; goddamn does 'Just Sign the Papers' hit hard emotionally. Had to stop after that song but I'm gonna restart the album again tonight and hopefully get through it uninterrupted - and then if time permits - jam WDHEO again.

Rosa & Reseda is so damn good

Rosa and Roseda might be my favorite so far! The story it tells is so good, even without the context of the narrative.
Y’all know who’s lined up to review it? I’m dying to have a place to discuss this album, I’m obsessed.
