I love how even after all the preceding melancholy, this album still manages to close on the up (at least musically) with a laid-back, somewhat jazzy number.

Well if you haven't heard other SKM, his newer stuff is fairly different. I started with Ghosts of the Great Highway and it's my favorite overall. His newer work is pretty divisive but there are some gems to be found. Ghosts has some great tracks like carry me ohio and duk koo kim, thats a pretty great album to start with.

Really a great album, I think a lot of his musical ideas are really strong on here, like “Dogs” (yah those lyrics), “Carissa,” “Ben’s My Friend”...sweet and simple

neeka, yeah this is his best. but his -other- newer album "Mark Kozelek" is pretty dope. and there's another SKM album on the way, "I Also Want to Die in New Orleans"
