his visceral Tourette’s-influenced bluster
this rubs me the wrong way a lil bit =/
any particular reason why?
Government Plates, in typical Death Grips fashion, is not without its wealth of filler (“This is Violence Now,” the middle 3 minutes of “Birds,” “Bootleg” to name just a few) to bring it down.
But why are these songs considered filler? It's always good to explain such labels.
hmm okay i will remembah 4 next time; in this case i think i just meant they were boring/took away from the experience but yeah you're absolutamente right.
No Love Deep Web had some relatively mellow songs like closer “Artificial Death in the West,” which seemed almost seraphic when held up to Death Grips’ typically schizophrenic light, but these respites are all but gone on Government Plates
just wanted to discuss this point a little. i think Fuck Who's Watching is the most 'seraphic' (that word hehe) thing these guys have ever done, so it's interesting that you say this. seriously i think i'm the only person that hears brilliance in that song.
i actually really like that song! i think i felt like with all the things that were going on in that song though it felt more blustery than artificial death in the west, about which i remember thinking "wow this is very mellow for a DG song" when i first heard it. more to the point i was making though, i thought that gvt plates for the most part was going hard all the time, and even during the "calmer" sections of fuck who's watching, i think there's still some cool stuff going on, so that's why i mentioned artificial death (also bc i needed seraphic and honestly where in a DG review is that going to come organically)
very good review as a whole, maybe my favorite of yours lately. i think you're like me, in that your writing gets a bit better when you read a lot about an artist (assuming you've been keeping up with DG over the last year as I have)
thanks! yeah i really like to do research on artists before i review them; i always feel unqualified to talk about them otherwise. i've tried to keep up with dg as much as i can since the money store since i liked it a fair bit, so i'm glad you think that knowledge shined through here.

It becomes extremely irritating and repetitive. If I'm in the minority on that then so be it.
