diet soda is absolute shite, might as well drink the regular drink
and sad that everyone is saying the new album is poo, haven't heard it yet

Yes. She topped herself for the third time in a row.
|
| |
you of all people would certainly think that Lucid
but no, new album is an absolute train-wreck compared to this album. a catastrophe to be quite frank. she went from unique and compelling to tired and overly familiar in a flash. it hardly has a single redeeming quality.
|
| |
what a torturously boring, overly accessible, aimlessly meandering and painfully tepid affair jesus.
|
| |
this is like a delicious tim-tam and the new one is basically the digestive biscuit of Holters career
|
| |
'overly accessible' you're above that kind of dumb shallow comment, potsy.
new album has gorgeous melodies and actually tries quite a few interesting things.
|
| |
its only a "dumb shallow comment" because you disagree, don't be brash.
if this was the everything everything thread and i said that you would be right there agreeing with me so drop the double standard.
compared to this it is very much overly accessible and 'lite', its not what i like about Holter and is a perfectly valid criticism considering my expectations of her
|
| |
its like when all those sludge bands like mastodon, kylesa, and baroness started releasing stoner pop records all the sudden. overly accessible compared to the expectations that were set.
|
| |
"dumb shallow comment" lmfao get a grip
|
| |
hmm potsy that's a pretty interesting criticism to discuss. at first i thought it was a perfectly valid criticism til you mentioned the stoner bands. considering that i'm a big fan of one of those records you mentioned (mastodon's the hunter), one thing i posted a bit in that thread was i didn't think that album should be judged wrt to the fans' expectation of the band and their direction.
but then again, mastodon have had a long career with multiple lp's and so a shift towards accessibility is probably more warranted than say for julia. need to hear it though, as i dig this quite a bit.

| |
"if this was the everything everything thread and i said that you would be right there agreeing with me so drop the double standard."
that's presumptuous and untrue. i had actual criticisms about that album and so did you. saying you dislike something because of how accessible it is is dumb. 'man i hate how easy this album is to get into'
|
| |
or maybe he doesn't find it challenging/rewarding.
plus, he had other criticisms; you're cherry picking that specific one.
I didn't like Holter's new one, but oddly enough she took the general direction I wanted her to take (it's basically her pop album). the fact that it's accessible isn't what irks me. what irks me is:
- the way she drowns out just about every track. anytime something interesting pokes through, she drenches it in reverb or cheesy orchestral instrumentation
- I don't find her vocals strong/unique enough to take center stage
- at no point was I moved, touched, invested, etc. I could barely finish it
- I listened to it very intently, yet I'm struggling to remember it
- there's just nothing about it I enjoyed, and you couldn't pay me to listen to it again.

feel you is really good but I didn't love the other track. I'll listen to the album one day
