Just wanted to bump this and remind everyone how awesome God Am is.

Really need to relisten to this in one single sitting.

After a 5th whole listen, I think this will fall somewhere between a 4.0 and a 4.5. Sludge Factory has really grown on me, as well as Head Creeps. Hopefully Frogs and Shame In You will grow too, because even though I think they're amazing I still think that the top 4 highlights here are God Am > Over Now > Heaven Beside You > Grind(or Sludge Factory idk).

It's really unfortunate how low this album is seen by as many. It seems like that kind of album where everyone is like "The only great material on here is song xxx, xxx, and xxx". And then you think about it again and think "Oh wait no! I forgot xxx", "Oh ya! And what about xxx" etc. It seems like the amazing songwriting here just gets lost once you actually put down the album, perhaps it's an album that needs to be listened to many times to stick permanently since a lot of the songs here don't hit immediately.

I think if Head Creeps, So Close, and Nothing Song were removed the average would probably be a 4.0. I actually love Head Creeps but out of all the really long epics on here, it's the least liked in general and it seems more like a 4 minute worthy song. So Close I enjoy but most people don't, Nothing Close is definitely the worst. I actually think Again is in the bottom 3, such a heartless song compared to Heads Creep and the rest.

Ahah i love nothin song, it's kind of fun and a good change of pace for the band. and head creeps isn't really seen as an epic, despite being longer in length than most of the other songs here.

I just mean time not "epicness"(it's ALA by the way Dan).

It is definitely their most interesting musically

I love So close, nothing song is the worst but I still like it. Again is just kind of boring honestly.

Maybe. I don't know, the riff is really nice and I like the chorus enough, plus the weird funny part with the "too-toot, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh" is really cool, I just think the verses are so boring and uninspired. The lyrics and most of the singing just seems below what the other "edgier" songs on the album provided.

I actually like the fact that this album is an underrated gem... at least you know someone has really good taste if they mention Tripod. And I always like turning people on to this since no one knows it exists haha

Funny you mentioned that, i literally just texted a school friend to make sure and check this out after Dirt and Jar of Flies! This is crazy underrated!

I can understand that point Pho3nix. I kind of realized a while ago that I'm more of a fan of a band's "popular but overlooked" material more so than their "certified classics"(Example preferring In Rainbows to all other Radiohead).

I think this is starting to overtake Dirt for me as their second best. Doubt that Jar of Flies will be topped though.

ahah this is about 50/50 for me. for example, i love doolittle a bit more than surfer rosa, which is more or less the most common pick especially outside of sput, but then i also love animals more than dark side or wish you were here, and i love evil empire more than the rage s/t. just a few examples i can think of in the moment.

Well ya it's not like all the time, otherwise i'd practically be intentional.

But to show you what I mean :

Jar of Flies(and possibly s/t) > Dirt
Surfer Rosa > Doolittle
In Rainbows > Ok Computer and Kid A
Animals > Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here

Hell yea dude! Jerry Cantrell is slowly becoming my favorite guitarist ever(even if he's not technically the best the riffs he writes are inspirational) and Layne might be my favorite front man

Jerry is amazing no doubt man, he's one the most consistent guitarists ever in my opinion.
