Solid album but, is it just me, or do parts of it sound outdated? Doesn’t holdup nearly as well as it used to. Vulgar holds up though, and especially Far Beyond Driven (my personal fav Panthers album).

*fav Pantera album lol. Stupid spellcheck.
Fair enough man. Just curious if anyone else feels the same. Maybe it’s just me. Still a solid album, and Cemetery Gates is hauntingly beautiful.

i like the 80s metal aspects of this that they ditched later on, namely the dickinson screams

Imagine thinking that good guitarwork, varied composition, vocals with range, etc. are outdated things to have an album. Fucking hell.

'Cemetary Gates' is such a fucking song

"Yeah the falsetto vox on shattered rule particularly hard"
I think that's head voice, but yeah, definitely rules. Same goes for the incredible ending of Cemetery Gates. Great Southern Trendkill might be my favorite Pantera album as far as atmosphere goes, but this is definitely my favorite album from a songwriting perspective

Can confirm Cemetery Gates is a song

Power Metal and this are the only reason that Dimebag is regarded as an important guitarist, honestly.

"he slays on TGST and FBD"
Far Beyond Driven was pretty meh and TGST wasn't really about the kind of swirling creative riffage we see on this one. Nor are any of the other members as good as they were on this one.

I mean, the fact that there are still elements of '80s power and thrash in this album is what makes it great.
|
| |
As I said, Great Southern Trendkill is all about the intense and dark atmosphere that pervades it
|
| |
The Great Southern Trendkill is the only Pantera album I actually enjoy listening to tbh. Everything else is soooo boring except for a few things.
|
| |
Idk, I love this one. Very well-written, and the 80s thrash elements give it an edge over the predominantly groove metal-oriented releases of later efforts. GST is indeed amazing though :]
