Imo the most similar stuff to this that I've heard would be Death's post-Human run, but those are more on the death side of the spectrum. This one brings the thrash madness

I honestly think that thrash has been tapped of the vast majority of its potential already. Vektor managed to release some modern thrash albums worth hearing, but other than that, the genre has been pretty fully explored and and has reached the end of its evolutionary cycle. Imo. The classically-cheesy adage "thrash died in 89" or whatever has a grain of truth to it...I think 89 is a bit early but the genre hasn't seen anything truly ground-breaking since the 90s that I've heard. It's a fundamental flaw of the genre due to the rigidity of its inherent characteristics.

Dm on the other hand continues to evolve and produce ground-breaking material. I just think dm allows for a near-endless line of evolution and exploration on a fundamental level. Yeah there is a lot of derivative and boring material, but it's almost matched by the amount of interesting shit that's still being made. I love dm a lot.

This is all my opinion of course and I could be wrong but that's how I feel at this point.

Thats not to say I don't love thrash cuz I do. I just think the genre is way more limited than dm

I agree entirely. I think that is why i grew out of thrash pretty quickly. black metal has more room for evolution, but it doesnt hit quite as hard for me.

Death metal is my favorite genre for the reasons you listed. It has the framework to be built upon to create something unique, powerful, fun, introspective, you name it. From a musical stand point, the riffage and song structure goes far beyond what thrash can offer. There are albums that consistently blow my mind, like Reduced to Ashes. I cannot fathom how humans like myself actually came up with those songs

Lol right. I dont mean to say I think thrash is 100% dead now, I just personally enjoy the direction dm is taking over it. Voivod is still making killer shit. And toxik was excellent so I'm sure the new album is quality

Death Metal>>>>>Thrash agreed. Really love myself some high quality thrash but the death metal pool is far too large for thrash to compete especially in the current day. Good rec on the Sadus. Check Watchtower if you haven't also. Not super similar to this but man instrumentally they are wild.

Also new Toxik does rule and thrash fans should definitely check it

Yeah absolutely on board with evilford on his analysis. Thrash has been pretty much stagnant since the mid 90s. Vektor is the only band that tried to do something to push the genre forward. Then of course we have VoiGod, who are on a league of their own. Apart from them we had some classic bands releasing very good albums like Heathen's The Evolution of Chaos or Watchtower's superb EP, Concepts of Math but that's it. Truth be told the rise of Groove Metal since the early 00s could be deemed as a natural evolution for Thrash but I know the purists will say that's not really Thrash so...

For those reasons Death or Black Metal are way more interesting nowadays, they got many bands pushing the envelope in many different directions. Still I don't think Thrash is dead and I'm pretty sure sooner or later we will get something new. Vektor proved it's posible.

The blends and the subgenres are where it's at when it comes to thrash imo: death/thrash, blackened thrash, tech/prog thrash, avant thrash. Interesting stuff still happening there.
