You must love Bloom a lot if Teen Dream is also a 5/5 and "doesn't hold a candle to Bloom."

I also think they hit a peak of cathartic pop songcraft here. But I’d also figure this at a strong 4.5-light 5 and TD as maybe a 3.5-4

Beach House have a sound they stick to and I understand on first listen if someone thought they were samey, but there are subtle things they do that make for variety if you pay attention.

I love how touring this album gave the band a phobia of live percussion
|
| |
and not by coincidence/by virtue of the dynamic mobility it affords most tracks there, it's head and shoulders their best
but yeah, I read an interview where Victoria Legrand said that the stress of playing with live drums was a real turnoff on that tour. relistening to the drum tracks on here after that gave me a good laugh; glad they got over it though

Listened to this for the first time in a while and it is soaring as you said. The last three tracks are really nice. It's about on par with Teen Dream for me now.

For everybody who is on the fence with Beach House:
1) Listen to 7
2) Congratulations now you love Beach House
(but yes, Teen Dream will always be trash)

I think this is their best album.

this and depression cherry are easily their best. everything else is at least a full letter grade behind
|
| |
Imo this and Depression Cherry are overly emotional, have bad story telling and annoying tumblr lyrics similar to The National. No, I heavily prefer the grayness of 7.

i prefer their more emotional stuff, like myth and levitation. lyrics from levitation:
"the branches of the trees, they will hang lower now
you will grow too quick, then you will get over it"
seems like pretty good writing to me tbh, and one of their best hooks
|
| |
Well, I was serious. As a girl I think this and Depression Cherry are maybe a bit too... girly lol. Every line is way too fatalistic and visual. Loving their new direction on 7 though, the more obscure lyrics make them more mysterious and unreachable, like a godlike legendary band even.

wait, you're female? haha i never knew. 7 is pretty great too. even though whenever i start the album i expect dark spring to turn into no cars go for whatever reason lol. it has some stunning songs. lemon glow, drunk in la, and dark spring are all very good. find it drags a bit in places tho, like pay no mind has to be the dullest song they've ever written
