He sings the opening section of Ljudet Innan.

He really should've sung more of it

We could do with more of Mikael tbh. Steve's on 5/6 songs on this album and I was hoping they'd use both voices equally, like in Drag Ropes

Yeah that's probably the only reason I haven't 5'd this, not enough Mikael

I would normally much prefer Mikael's voice to Steven's, but this album actually has some of Steven's best singing. The title track comes directly to mind. I think Steven's voice really feels most at home in quiet folk pieces like that one. Not saying Mikael's voice isn't fit for folk (because it is) but Steven's voice just compliments the music so much better here i think.

Not that I don't mind Steve's vocals, but he doesn't do enough with them to make them interesting throughout. His performance on the first two tracks are just about as good as it gets

what would you want him to do though? He doesn't have a lot of range. Steven's not the best singer, I can agree there, but I think he stands out pretty well here. Again, the title track I think is his finest vocal performance. And as much as I love Mikael's voice, I cant imagine the song having the same 'morning mist-calm' that Steven brings to it. He has this soft, folksy tone that I cant imagine Mikael pulling off to a similar effect and it really goes along way here. "Still Day" is the closest I think Mikael's gotten to replicating that.
in the end it comes down to preference, but i dont know, i think you guys are being too critical of Steven.

I agree that this album is one of Wilson's best vocal performances and that his singing style fits the music, but Mikael's singing at the beginning of Ljudet Innan proves that he can do it just as well. Mikael just has more range with his voice, but with the atmospheric, dreamy style of music, Wilson's great too. I think they had him sing more because Mikael played all the guitars

Mike is a better singer than Steven, but he's been over singing on every album since Ghost Reveries. He used to exercise some restraint.

I personally prefer singing to monster noises

lol how wrong can Underflow be? I'll tell you, VERY fucking wrong.

I think it would be difficult to make the case that Mike's clean vocals weren't nearly as showy on older recordings as they are on newer releases. There's a solid reason for the Akerstache parody existing. Also, Mike is a better singer than Steven. I know you agree with me there. So even if you disagree with in regards to Mike over-singing on new releases that's 2 out 3, pleb! 2 out of 3!

Title track is fucking beautiful and definitely wouldn't work without Wilson's subtle voice. However, you can't help but think that Mikael could have been used for just a couple more tracks to give more variation. Not saying either are better singers, but I wish they used them both to complement one another like in Drag Ropes

They better not offend Mikael.

Agreed completely. But there's not that much singing in the record anyway, and Wilson is definitely perfectly used in the t/t and closer

That's the one I'm jamming now, its actually pretty cool but sounds more like a King Diamond parody...
