Back to DFels original argument about how PTH stole their asthetic from BTBAM well I agree they have a similar style but PTH manage to create good songs out of this progressive style of music while BTBAM just tie a bunch of sweet sections togther with decent death metal. I love both the bands but PTH are certainly tighter songwriters. While BTBAM are all and all much more progressive. This Message Edited On 10.03.07

How is BTBAM progressive at all? PTH have forced themselves to progress by constantly inserting everything they listen to into their own music as they grow. They've forced themselves to progress as instrumentalists by writing songs outside of their capability and then learning to perfect them. BTBAM just play flashy riffs and really long songs.

I mean listen to the progression from Take and Take to Silent Genocide to Asperity of Sin to I Am Dmitri Karamazov and the World is my Father (still their best imo) to Soft Targets to No Stars over Bethlehem .

BTBAM are progressive by label but they fit more into the Opeth-esque category of "progression" because they just play long, dynamic songs that follow no real song structure. Sorry I should have been clearer about what I really meant. None of these bands are "progressive" in a maudlin of the Well sense but I'm sure PTH have progressed as musicians over the years. This Message Edited On 10.03.07

Progression as an encompassing label is a fallacy though. You can't say they fit into a progressive slot because they play long songs without structure. That makes zero sense.

I'll concede to TSC being progressive inclined but everything after is more or less the same thing over and over. This Message Edited On 10.03.07

Lol I'm doing a really crappy job at explaining myself. Yeah I know that BTBAM and me aren't really "progressive" however just like Opeth they're labeled everywhere as so, doesn't mean it's right. Progressive can't really be defined in a music sense, which I'm sure you agree with. I guess I just label bands like BTBAM as progressive as well because I'm lazy. This Message Edited On 10.03.07

Yeah I suppose it is but I'm to lazy to try to define the music exactly so I use prog as a crutch along with many others people.

where can I have a listen to I Am Dmitri Karamazov and the World is my Father? I have heard so much about it now from various people I feel I must give it a listen before I go mad.

A Plateful of Our Dead is my favorite song, everything from the vocals to the bass shred is sick.

"Quote CocaineThe Human Abstract ****ing sucks ***. These guys are pretty much unique sound wise but here's a list of bands that sort of sound similar or bands that heavily influenced them:between the buried and me, into eternity, fall of troy (sucks but you might like them), thrice, iron maiden, blablabla.Just wait for Fortress it'll be worth it."

Haha - Thanks I'll check them out. Fortress is out early 2008 right? It'll be worth the wait, hopefully. This Message Edited On 10.04.07

It's bad enough, I mean they finished recording it in early August, it's just the mastering that's taking forever.

They finished in early August! Wow. That's quite long then. It'll seem a lot longer for you aswell, saying as they are your, or one of your, favourite bands =/

I have no real idea why it takes so long to master, but I'm used to it. Kezia took almost a full year longer than intended to come out.

Maybe they just keep working at it until they think it can't get any better. I suppose if it makes it sound a lot better, it's definitely worth it.

EDIT: Upped my rating to 4.5. Amazing album, not a bad track on it.This Message Edited On 10.07.07

I'm bored so here's a little shit I investimagated and founded out on my own. Fortress news, you read it here first folks:

Their first single is Blood Meat (confirmed), and they'll be filming a video for it (soon enough). They've already got the VideoFact money for it.

Anyways, while I already knew about Blood Meat, my boredom allowed me to find out about the video. That's all I'm saying for now, stay on your toes.

So i've had this album sitting around on my computer for a while now and i finally got around to properly hearing it. Yay for me. Some really cool stuff going on, absolutely love the variations and all the stuff PtH throw at this album. I've been alternating between this, Thrice and Converge all of today. This Message Edited On 10.12.07
