Dunno I thought Jonathan Davis' dj set was pretty good even though he didn't spend all that much time
behind the turntables

Yeah his beat matching was really great as was his track selection. Transitions were basic but adequate, although I really didn't like the transition from Freak On A Leash into Got The Life. Seemed like the phrasing wasn't really all there.

Now if only you could fly down here and beat that message into some of the local guys.

Also, Skrillex stopped using his laptop because Ableton kept crashing; he runs Pioneer CDJs now and by all accounts his stage presence has really improved.

This guy seems really gimmicky

I bet if you met him, he'd be really tacky and corny.

BRO. I KNOW.
I want to see Mr. Skrillex do some beat juggling, that would be pretty cool.

I just enjoy that' he's branched out a bit, even though he could just be running mixed CD's or thumbdrives; I want the local producers to bring him here.

Would you consider an act like Deadmau5 to be a DJ though he plays 99% his own stuff? I mean are people DJ's if they're just playing their own stuff?
|

Not really sure about what he does other than what I see exists on Sputnik, but I would say no he is still just a producer.

Yeah you can be a DJ if you just mix your own tunes. It gives you a lot more control if you use ableton too because you can play around with individual elements of the track on the fly. I remember an interview with him where he said he only plays his stuff because if people go to a Deadmau5 show its not not because they wanna hear some other artist , so its just a creative decision, shouldnt define him as a producer only. No way to know how much Deadmau5 actually does live though because he's tucked away inside of his gient cube these days, but he has a fuckload of equipment if you look up pics of the inside. Plus he's been in the game for so long I'm sure even if he ever was faking it, he's doing something now. His job would be so damn boring at this point otherwise.

I always make the assumption that big names and small ones alike mix live, but sadly this has lead to some disappointing moments.

Fuck Sonny Moore.

What's the bet that whatever blonde Mau5 was dating at the time of that performance was in the background moving the dial on the light dimmer back and forth

You usually know the ones who do though. Producers who clearly put a lot of time and work into their productions and care about the artfulness of the output aren't gonna go up on stage and fake some half-assed performance for their fans. And I honestly think that most artists (big name and small) that get gigs booked around the globe at least give their best effort at live mixing.
Any disappointing moments worth mentioning? I can't say I've ever seen someone live where I thought they weren't at least mixing live. I've seen a few DJs that could've been better at it, but I respect that way more than faking it.

Any disappointing moments? When Misatbishi got outed during a gig for not mixing live, despite the pantomime act that he put one which consisted of attempting to crossfade, and to actually reach into his crate and pull out a fresh vinyl every two minutes. He had a laptop tucked away that was playing a CD
There's numerous videos on youtube showing Guetta pretending to mix while his CDJ's aren't even switched on as well

^ No-one beats Regi when it comes to that kind of stuff
