This album just bitch slapped the shit out of me. I have not been caught off guard this badly since Cymbals Eat Guitars released Why There Are Mountains. Oddly enough, this album vaguely reminds me of that one. Anyway, yeah, spot on review.

Seriously great review, man. It's incredibly well written, and the introductory paragraph is brilliant; I relate to it all too well. I'm so glad to have listened to this before Pitchfork makes it a "Best New Music" pick.
Also, I know the central argument of the review is that the quality of the record lies primarily in its orginiality, but I can't shake the notion that this sounds uncannily like an album released by Exlplosions In The Sky with a constantly freaked-out Isaac Brock on lead vocals. And I mean that in the most complementary manner possible. It still sounds more like itself than anything else, if you know what I mean.
I'm going to go listen to this some more, brooooos.

i totally see that. my first thought listening to ellery roberts was "isaac brock," but still, if it is EITS and Isaac Brock, who else is doing this? Also, this is too pop to be post rock but too big to be much else
