let them actually officially release this first Ty.

Hehe oops.
I really want these guys to actually progress

I actually thought Scurrilous marked a new era of progression in their sound but each to his own I guess.

^ I think it progressed in certain places but kept the trademark sound for the most part. I'm more interested in what the ones that really dislike the album imagined this bands next step would be; and if it's just the lyrics that are the deciding factor.

I mean the music is top notch, sure the sweeps are nothing new but I thought that was part of what we enjoyed about their music.

well considering this is their worst album out of the three I wouldn't call it a progression

Wish you would have stopped reading during my first post, than I wouldn't have had the unfortunate waste of time meeting your non contributing, idiot self. Ad hominem, perfect defense mechanism when you have no argument.

"I stopped reading there"... Such a overused generic thing to say to people when you don't have a valid argument... No wonder your comprehension skills are laughable.

Yes, latin expressions make you seem smart. I'll drop this because a) Tyler won't be amused if the thread is being used for a discussion non-PTH related and b) You already made a case for myself.

I'm with Tyr here, Scurrilous has truly shown progression from what they did in Fortress. Not instrumentally though, because let's be honest it's not humanly possible to progress much more in that area.

Of course I made a case for you in your head. You're pissed off at me, don't think for a second I don't know the simple psychology behind your bs. Everyone you argue with online feels they have won, and makes it like they are above you. I'm not even worrying about that shit man.

Seriously what's your issue than? Did you want them to drop the wankery or what?

I guess I just mean that the band seems content evolving at a snail's pace when a sound might not grab you the same way today as it did years ago. The band feels like they want to evolve somewhere but they don't want to lose their fans so they're making the change annoyingly slowly.

I disagree with you there Defeater. I am able to relate to this album a lot more on a personal level than to their previous records, and I love how it sounds more polished and organised. The whole album is like a giant technical soundscape. I find it to be a very intruiging listen time and time again.

I really don't think they give a shit about losing their fans.

Valid argument, Alex, I can see where you're coming from. This didn't shock and awe me like Kezia (and Fortress to a minor extenct) did. But I'm not sure I want something completely different from these guys either.

I think Rodney has made that very clear in interviews, it just feels like they're unsure how to really go about progressing is all. I don't know if it makes a difference with me being a musician and naturally focusing mainly on the guitars, but this just feels like the same thing they did years ago.

Been listening to this all week and it has to be my favorite PTH record, not singing along when rody belts out some of the more melodic lines is impossible.
