IMO this is their best, but all of their first three records are good places to start. The two records that came before this are incredibly passionate sprawling, lo-fi epics whereas here much more emphasis is placed on atmosphere; its much more refined and layered. Check out the opener to each record, as all are amongst the best songs on their respective record and should give you a good indication of what it will sound like.

I think the first 15 tracks is my favourite streak
seriously though the end is fucking fantastic
paper thin walls - I came as a rat - lives - MOTHERFUCKING life like weeds
so good, and what people are made of is really underrated as a closer as well, such an aggressive way to finish the album.

Haha first 15 tracks. Idk man I love this but it doesn't hit me as hard as everyone else. Certain songs do, but not the thing as a whole.

Alone Down There is most underrated Modest Mouse for me, the guitar in the outro gets me hard.

3rd Planet is great too. Can't really place my finger on how the lyrics pertain to the subject matter of the song. Guess I haven't analyzed the lyrics that much.
