These lyrics may touch on similar subjects, but they're superior and more meaningful. The music itself, vocals and all, portrays the emotions perfectly.
In the want, the need, and this desperation
You'll find me as the time-bomb
As the last great stand in this history
When all our roads have been travelled
And all have come to a most bitter end
Today I thaw

No question, I be comin down and shit
Yo I gets rugged as a motherfuckin carpet get
And niggaz love it, not in the physical form but in the mental
I spark and they cells get warm
I'm not a gentle, man, I'm a Method, Man!
Baby accept it, utmost respect it
(Assume the position) Stop look and listen
I spit on your grave then I grab my Charles Dickens
Uh, yeah, Method Man wins.

Anybody else find it ironic he wants bands to use symbols from OTHER stories, culture, etc, but also complains about the lyric containing "phoenix" in it as being nonsense? Apparently we have to pick the RIGHT cultural symbols for him.
Phone calls, winters, cold, thawing, all these things are symbols, anyone can relate to them. Not cultural symbols my ass. Your argument is genuinely pretty terrible. Especially since you value a lack of originality. "Oh, look, this is better because it uses something from the bible to express something simple. I love it when bands use symbolism they didn't create to convey something."
