reznor comes up with some interesting synth textures and riffs occasionally (though not very often) but any positive points are obliterated by the whiny, navelgazing lyrics and vocals. there's a reason why most of the people who think he's a genius are teenagers who haven't listened to enough music to know any better.
and to the guy above, it's largely because of NIN's influence that the current industrial crop is so pathetic. NIN just took the good stuff and watered it down for a mainstream audience.
