90s Maiden certainly was a major disappointment after releasing one of traditional metal's finest album in Seventh Son, but at least Virtual XI and No Prayer for the Dying are not such failed abortions like Demolition was. Even Mike Stagno hates Demolition.

This is what I meant by their lows not being as low as Priest's.

Exactly. It's too bad Priest's recovery from Demolition produced only average to good albums instead of Maiden's recoveries being albums that are great and come at least somewhere close to their first seven albums.

The only major downside to Maiden's albums from Brave New World onward is the sometimes far too repetitive choruses (something that already started to plague Harris' songwriting with The X Factor). Thankfully they've always done enough to make up for it. Priest's only great album post-Painkiller album is Angel of Retribution, which isn't that great.

I too wish Maiden's later choruses more creative and less repetitive, but at least the three guitarists continue to come out with awesome riffs and great solos. Angel of Retribution honestly could have been a bit better without the last song dragging on so long.

The first three songs on here are personal classics along with "Dissident Aggressor." I am likely to bump this to 4.5 fairly soon.

Awesome opener for sure, pretty much what it has in common with the two albums that sandwitch it.

Simon Phillips sure did awesome drum fills on this album's opener, even close to what Binks and Travis did with their first tracks with the band.
