Tate had character up to HITNF included at the very least, then he's literally gone crazy.
Anyway I'm leaving this here too, same thing I posted in the Mindcrime thread. The origin of Anarchy-X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz6qbg0B0_s&index=11&list=PLxDcWR6wjL0eIQhm0Cm0Jg4Wgoq148Kt6&t=0s

It's a playlist with RfO demo tracks, a few of which never saw the light, like the t/t which is the song I linked above. Other songs that didn't make it to the final album are: The Dream, From the Darkside and Scarborough Fair (later an Empire b-side and a bonus track in its remaster).
I like them all (more or less) but the one I really wish was finished is From the Darkside, it would fit perfectly with the rest. The Dream instead sounds more like it belongs to The Warning

Damn!!! Such an incredible album! Queensryche was my favorite band when this album was released (yes, I’m old). It’s been about two decades since I pulled this out to listen to it in it’s entirety; so good, so gothy; I love it!

"so good, so gothy; I love it!"
Walk in the Shadows sounds like a hybrid of heavy metal and gothic rock and I love it so much.
As of now my ranking of the golden period would be: Rage > PL > Mindcrime > Warning > Empire. Note that I gave a 5/5 to three of them haha.

You dig Promised Land that much eh? Awesome. Nothing compares to Mindcrime for me, but it wouldn't take much encouragement for me to hand out 5/5 for everything up to P/L.

Yeah man, it took quite some time but when it started to click it just jumped to me, I believe it was a day when I was down and the t/t hit like a truck (doom prog?). It's a very mature album imo, from lyrics (disillusion, family gone sour, asylums and mental illnesses) to music (great drumming like My Global Mind, stunning textures between bass and guitars like One More Time, interesting experiments like the psychy I Am I).
It's wasn't as radio-ready as Empire, unfortunately.

Does anybody remember that Geoff Tate EPK that came out a few years ago? Geoff was promoting his new album at the time and the video was absolutely hilarious. He was trying to act cool and badass. He was driving around on a motorcycle and drinking wine with sunglasses on. He narrates the whole video and says things like ''This is life, and I say bring it on'' and he has one of those awful solo songs playing the entire time. Just watch... this shit is comedy gold.

yeah this is on my must-watch list now.
I am I / Damaged / Real World were the first to click for me, but the rest have slowly (like REAL slow) grown on me over the years.

Man, Tate really seems to have gotten his shit together in past two or so years. He had a time where was a douchebag but now he's singing better live and seems much more humble and he even looks less embarrassing. He's looking like a professor these days.
I watched him perform Walk In the Shadows in an acoustic set live on YouTube and the band sounded good and he sounded better than he has in a while. I was somewhat impressed.

^ well now that's about the best thing he's done in a shockingly long time.

No One More Time? In my experience that's often the first one people get hooked to. For sure it's an album that demands some willingness by the listener (you can't really jam PL in a happy day haha), one thing that really helps is the lyrical content I think. I really love the mental illness lyrics for instance, especially in Out of Mind. Or the "they're only your illusion anyway" bit in Lady Jane.

That sounds really good but I was talking about this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RimkgU98Hhk&t=577s
It's the entire concert but the first song is Walk in the Shadows. I recommend it.

Ironically, listening to Tate getting better hurts more than the opposite. Interesting setlist, some valuable deep cuts in there, like Blood which fits the setting nicely with more obvious choices like Bridge.

I watched him to Eyes of a Stranger in one of those sets and it didn't sound all that great, kinda like I would have expected before seeing the vid I linked. It might be that acoustic is just a better setting for his matured voice.

Ironically in The Verdict's limited edition there are two acoustic tracks recorded in the studio in 2018, Open Road and I Dream in Infrared, and they are excellent. If only Todd's vocals could sound so natural in the actual albums... how can your bonus cuts be better sounding than the actual albums ffs, let's end this loudness war thing already please thank you.
