Cliff Burton was great compared to the other Thrash bassists(at his time), I still think Burton is good, not godly but still good.
I think he is the only bass player that actually sounds heavy and melodic at the same time.

Well I could make an argument for several others. Steve DiGeorgio for example.

Steve Di Giorgio sounds nuts man, I forgot DTP was released on 1986.
I don't think there's many bassists that actually sound heavy and melodic. They might be in heavy bands but they don't sound heavy-melodic by themselves.
The ones I can think of are Roger Patterson, Sean Malone and probably the guy from Sabbath(forgot his name).
Of course, in a technicall way, Burton ain't that good, probably above average.

Damn, I keep spelling Steve's name wrong. Anyway, the Black Sabbath bassist is Geezer Butler. Great bassist.
I'm not denying Cliff was a decent bassist. But if you think about it, he seemed better than he really was because... well look who we was surrounded by!

And his hand was all flappy!

For my money, Anthrax has had some pretty good bassists. I really liked Frank Bello's work on what I've heard on Persistence of Time.

Most of the good basslines of Anthrax weren't written by Bello, he may have the hability to play them, but he wasn't very creative.

Not really. Kirk was still Kirk. And James has always been a riffing machine.
I know I'm going to get criticised for those statements.
Well, not you specifically, but damn...
Kirk has never impressed me. He just wanks blues, throws in chromatics, and pushes it through wah. The rest of the time, he's just sort of there.
And Hetfield is so inferior to Mustaine in overall musicianship and writing ability it makes me laugh. This Message Edited On 08.02.06

Oh why stop there? Lars goes at the drums with all the style and grace of a chimpanzee with a head wound trying to assert its dominance as alpha male through displays of aggression and noise.

I still think that mediocrecy put together had as a result great songs, sure with the path of time and the massive fans that the band have, it might turn dissapointing to see such a 50/50 band be so popular and loved.
I'm a tech metal fan, and I still like Metallica. This Message Edited On 08.02.06This Message Edited On 08.02.06This Message Edited On 08.02.06

Man trashing MoP is the new black. I will not follow, this album is still a classic. Yes Kirk is overrated, but still a darn good guitarist and yes Hetfields riffs can sound a little similar, but for the most part each song on this album is unique from one another. That's my take on it.

I think we trash MOP because it sucks.

I'm pretty sure every song on here frequently uses the low-E string, ad nauseum. This Message Edited On 08.02.06
