Heard "The Hero" and dug it a lot, have to look into this.

Very strong album, and their most commercial and accessible. It's kind of "power metally" in spots which is why I put it behind their more war orientated albums(personal preference). If you are new to AA I would check out this or With Oden on Our Side first. If you like sloppy idgaf raging battle metal just hit the debut album. For you, Acanthus, this is probably the best album to start with.

It's the first I've listened to them, they've been on my Pandora station a lot lately - thanks for the album pointers.

agree with you on this auschwitz. the debut is my personal favorite. even though the debut is a bit sloppy, it's got some fantastic solos and riffs. the drumming I'm fond of as well, not to mention the vocals. and the atmosphere is captured better on it, to me, it really feels like these guys are going to ride out in a longship, come to your little village and burn it to the ground.

Yeps with this I realized that I can't get into death metal. This is a good album and despite of not being fan of the gerne, I still hear some of the tracks. "Twilight of the thunder god" is awesome.

This album is the one that made me a big amon amarth fan, even though i hadn't heard anything from them beforehand. Unfortunately i missed them when they played as support for the unholy alliance part III with slayer, but i have since seen them twice, and whenever they play the songs from TOTTG, it sounds as if the whole room is on a viking crusade-that's how powerful this music is. Sure, some of the riffs and melodies can sound repetitive and tiring, but that is all part of AA's musica formula, never changing, never getting any worse.

I think With Odin on Our Side is their definitive album, every song rules hard.

lol@being too simplified. Sorry they don't have odd time signatures or enough prog elements to satisfy your tastes.
