looking back at this thread, key is totally right about the clean vocals on this being totally ridiculous. i've been going down memory lane jamming old 00s favorites in recent weeks, which for me includes the first album from these guys. on symmetric (and the unmoored album before it), christian mostly stuck within a range that he could actually sing in, and as a result he delivered a lot of catchier and more interesting melodies. on PBP he brought in more of his pop influences (see illusionist chorus) but for the most part but still delivered an album where he sang within his range and the style of the record. on this, he spends most of the album jerking off outside of his range and as a result the melodies are overly structured, forced, and emotionless. meanwhile musically these guys were trying to go off with the colder spacey sound that was trendy at the time (e.g. planetary duality, etc) and it doesn't mesh at all. and ultimately because of his inability to actually sing any of this, christian got kicked out of the band. compounding this, i also think their more prog-influenced modal choices on later albums ended up resulting in cornier vocal melodies, which continued with their new guys
as far as i can tell from briefly checking his later projects, christian basically never found the plot again when it comes to his clean vocals
title track rips, the rest of this can't live up

For the haters saying nothing lives up to the title track, I'd say Ghost Prototype 2 and Prism & Gate do the job just fine.
