For a debut this is absolutely brilliant. Album really brings to mind the best things about Swedish DM, and more. I love the eeriness of "Override of the Overture", "Dismembered" and especially "In Death's Sleep". The solos here also stand out for me quite a bit.

not just that, but it it has a more visceral feel, LHP feels a little tame in comparison. Also drumming +

Will this be considered the first melodic death metal album?

it's not melodic death metal by true sense of the term but you'd be an idiot to say it doesn't have its fair share of melody

There's some melody like in the title track, In Death's Sleep, and Override. The rest is mostly just nasty riffage.
