Dirge for November is also criminally underrated.

The ending of Blackwater Park is awesome, it sounds like Åkerfeldt is about to explode judging by the vocals. The whole song is brutal but this part is fucking intense.

After constant listening I've reached the conclusion that the first two tracks bore the pants off me.

From then on it delivers big time with the s/t track making an awesome climax. Good thing my pants were off then.

um too bad The Leper Affinity and Bleak are the best two on the album

this is just a really incredible album overall, truly a good representation of the "Opeth experience" and arguably one of the best death metal albums to date

I really really really really really don't get it. Please don't flame me, I'm not trying to say nothin' about nothin' really but...maybe I'm missing something. Their music is dynamic, original, haunting, heavy, unpredictable and...rather boring to be perfectly honest. That's me. I can see why so many people like them, they fuck with your ears/mind in the best possible way (or try to), but for me, it lingers too much, it just doesn't have that get up and go that I look for in my music. I guess Death Metal just isn't my thing...

that "get up and go" is actually the best way to describe most good death metal, but not the progressive side of it. If you want catchy on your feet death metal get some cryptopsy or something.

To everyone else, I've read descriptions of Opeth as a band, and something that's consistent throughout all those summaries (besides all of them basically saying Opeth kicks ASS lol) is the idea that what Opeth does, primarily, is create very believable imagery, that is, they paint a picture with their music, and tell a story through that picture. What Opeth does for ya'll is what Tool and (recently) Symphony X does for me



I bet every single person on here could go to any other person and find an album that one likes, and the other thinks is Meh, or even hates. They would also likely be able to find an album that they both think is crap. They would ALSO likely be able to find an album that they both think is awesome.
