"The lack of loud guitars and the absence of Jimmy Chamberlain contribute a lot for this being the worst SP album, even below Zeitgeist."
oof. Jimmy is actually on Shiny and Cyr and this has more of his character than either of those imo. also definitely wouldn't call this sterile, there's a lot of variety between the tracks despite maintaining a mostly sombre mood throughout.

Struggling with this one a little. On one hand I love the chilling, darker tones and atmosphere on here. But on the other hand I hate how slow and bloated this album feels too. Album is both calming and frustrating for me, which is weird.

Yeah I feel like it's one of those albums. It's probably a 2.5 or a 3 at the moment, personally. Got a feeling this could change over time, will definitely give it chance. Blank Page gives me chills, I love it!

I'll be honest, the only songs I really like from this are Ava Adore, Daphne Descends, Pug and Blank Page. There's definitely moments outside of those songs I enjoy, For Martha starts off beautifully but it just goes on for a little too long. Most of the album leaves me feeling a bit... Empty? Just nothing to really take away from a lot of it. I absolutely love Mellon Collie, and I like Siamese Dream so hopefully this will grow on me.

Fair enough. It's a depressing album, there are songs on this that I enjoy in the same way that I enjoy, like, red house painters or something.

Definitely depressing! I do like my depressing albums though, shame this hasn't made a huge impact on me yet.

Yeah Doof I remember hating this when I first listened to it it about a decade ago, was disappointed with the lack of heavy tracks, especially after getting into SD and MCIS.

Yes Clay, same with 'Soup' as Zak suggested but I'd also say 'Vitalogy' which no one knew what the hell to make of when it came out but has aged so well.

The album does feel bloated at times, but compensates with a unique atmosphere. I love the change of style, didn’t miss the riffs for a minute. It marks a special chapter in their discog.

The electronica in Pug is amazing. It’s a pity they didn’t include Eye on this album, released on the Lost Highway soundtrack only. Would have fit here perfectly.
