I didnt here anything at all remotely resembling a cat. I repeated the part over and
over again, and nothing.
Does she meow right at or before the "Our Goddess gave birth to your god" part?
Thats the part that comes in at 3:35 according to the myspace player. This Message Edited On 01.26.08

I don't see how you can say that they aren't progressive. And the comment I made about them becoming something they aren't just meant that I hope they don't strive to be too much like other bands they admire, and forget their signature sound along the way.
The Circus riff brings BTBAM to mind.
I need some time to listen to this and find exactly what it is I'm trying to get at. ;p

@ Bodom, it comes before the 'our goddess...' bit, the meow is when everything is quiet, during the drum beat, and I think you might be right about it being geared to the right speaker, I'll get out my medusa headphones in a minute to make sure

I've listened to this album once already. I know its a little early, but I fell its not as incredible as people say it is. I think alot of people hear are kissing Coke's ass (for whatever reason, I have no idea). Album is sticking at a 3.5 for me at this point in time. Vocals have changed only slightly but are still in the vein of the last album (which really bothered me alot).

I get defensive about retarded comments regardless of the album. The vocals have improved 15-fold. Pretty sure Rody didn't scream, growl in a few ways on the last album. Pretty sure his vocals aren't layered and harmonised to shit, and I'm pretty sure he's expanded his lower registers as well as his higher ones.
Like I said, I get defensive against ignorant comments regardless of who they're in regards to.

Well, I haven't heard this yet, but it's coming in the mail, so I should be having an opinion on this soon.

Also, I'm just angrier than usual so I'll be twice as aggressive on stupid ignorant comments. And premature ones. Don't give me this "i just listened to it and it's a 3.5" bullshit. I dont care what you rate it, firstly, but don't act like you have a valid impression so soon.

You can't rate it until Tuesday.
I had it at a four for the first two weeks I had it but that was ridiculous because Kezia is at least a 4 and this is better in pretty much every way. Then it naturally grew into a 4.5 anyways.

Yeah but it's not that early considering you've had a leak for about a week. Premature yeah, but still.
I had this for about a month before I settled on a 4.5 though.

You can always change ratings if your opinion on the album changes though.

I agree with Josh D. about it being less accesible, at least from what I've heard, which is up to Limb from Limb.

It's both less accessible and more accessible at the same time IMO. It's about five times catchier but a lot more tech-y.

well the catchiness isnt as forced but the melodies especially vocal are a lot catchier for me.

I just wish there was a little more variation in the drumming. He's obviously talented, but needs to break out of his shell imo.
I still think some of his best work was done on ACUoSThis Message Edited On 01.26.08

I agree but his drumming is impressive nonetheless. He's keeping it simple to make sure the songs hang together, but what he's playing is still not too easy.

Yes. That's why this review already has 541 comments, Kezia was rated a 4.3 out of 305 votes, and Protest The Hero are one of the most raved about bands on this site.
Because everyone wants to impress Cocaine.
Spot on, brotha.

The drumming is not easy by any means, but like I said, it lacks a little variation, and sticks out with the constant barrage of double bass to the face.

Dissentience rocks hard, and I think it's because of his vocal hooks. In fact, I can't get enough of the first half of this album, up to Limb from Limb. Palms Read, Bone Marrow, Bloodmeat, all good shit.
Even the acoustic/piano segment at the end of Bone Marrow gives me goosebumps.
Two minutes and...and then Y'lads are in for a surprise....This Message Edited On 01.26.08

LOLcakes. Sorry, but I've listened to Fortress like six-seven times, and it's a solid 4. Kezia is about a 3.5 at very best. Yeah they're more tech than Optimus Prime, but they're still kids that play music like kids trying to impress with how dope their skills are. And the facts are, this music has been done before in some capacity. It's got nothing to do with ignorance, it's just that the rabid fanboyism destroys the mechanism in the brain that accepts different opinions/criticism of any kind. PTH have some really awesome riffs and melodies yet lack truly strong songwriting skills to differentiate one track from another. Are there some strong exceptions? Sure, but nothing here grabbed me and sent chills up my spine like the chorus of BTBAM's "Sun Of Nothing", the epic atmosphere of MTB's Planet Of Ice, or the outro of Thrice's "Firebreather". Fortress is a great album and a big step forward for PTH but it has distinct moments of "I just heard this part five minutes ago", "Wow they really like double-bass breakdowns", and "let's just shred ourselves out of that dull part". They use metal cliches better than anyone, but hey you can paint a pile of dogsh_t any pretty color you want, right?
