Well then. SW's guitar tones are gorgeous pretty much on everything he's done, except the distorted tones on The Incident.

He uses weird effects and manipulates the guitars to where they don't even sound like a guitar anymore, just like a crunch, i hate it.

Fear of a Blank Planet was alright though.

Thats what I love, why limit yourself when there are so many sounds you can explore in a guitar? I advocate experimentation, it keeps things fresh.

i'm kind of a fan of a more gritty guitar sound though the real issue i have with the albums after in absentia is that they feel really compacted and all the other albums before that, feel more spacious not sure why though

Yeah I agree with this, it was pretty bad on FOABP, but the newer albums are mixed and mastered at a lower volume to maintain the dynamic range of the album.
